    Suzuki DF200

We just serviced an engine that has had the rminder light blinking for 200 hours of use. I would have thought the owner would have been concerned at some point- maybe not.

    Suzuki DF200

This is probably the oil change reminder system. With the key on, but engine off, pull out the lanyard three times and then turn the key off. That should reset the system. Oh, yeah- be sure to change your oil as recomended if you haven't already done so.

    Stupidity +

Usually seating for 4 or 5 on that model. It's a fairly wide design and a moderate V, so it would take a lot of weight to roll one over. Way too many people aboard that size of boat.

    Etec 90 prop?

If the engine ran out of oil, I would recomend performing the winterization procedure to be sure that air is purged from the lines. I am also going to suggest you get the boat to an authorized Evinrude E-tec dealer and have him do diagnostics on the engine. The E-tec's are great engines when...

Prop Size for 22 foot Angler with 115 Yamaha 4 stroke

The Yamaha spec for the 115 is a WOT of 5000 to 6000 RPM. If you're hitting 5800 the you're dead on where you want to be. I wouldn't change a thing.

    Flexing of cockpit deck

A good source for surveyor recomendation can be local insurance agents who deal with marine policies.

    GPS/chart plotter/fish finder

Look at the Humminbird 858 series. The plotter / sounder model sells for $999.

    Flexing of cockpit deck

The key phrase is "knowingly". And dealers don't hire surveyors for this very reason. The survey belongs to the person paying for it, and the surveyor works for the that person. It's the surveyors job to find flaws and advice his customer (the buyer) of the boat's condition. For a dealer to...

    How tight is tight?

One of the techs in our shop refers to the German torque specification: Gudentite....

    Flexing of cockpit deck

Agree completely, which is why I find fault with the surveyor. It was his job to lift that dek material amd check the deck. I would think that amount of soft core would show up by tapping the boat's bottom as well.

    Flexing of cockpit deck

To get back to my point on this- With the DriDek in place the problem wasn't detectable. So it is likely that the boat owner was unaware of the problem, the dealer was unaware of the problem and the surveyor missed it. Why is the focus of some on the dealer misrepresenting the boat? If he was...

    Flexing of cockpit deck

Automotive laws often don't apply to the marine industry- because they are different. Why is this the dealer's fault when the surveyor missed it? The surveyor was paid to find faults with the boat. He did not. So if the guy to find the faults missed it, how was the dealer supposed to know? It...

    May 2012 Update

Today's outboards are so reliable, that having twins seems an unnecessary expensive and complex solution to a problem that doesn't really exist. Add to that the added expense initially, and in maintenaance, and a single makes the best sense for most aplications. Which means that if one really...

A larger Marinuat (wherefor art thou)...

For comparison, the C-Dory 26 Venture is in the same price range, and the C-25 is close, so I'm not surprised at the price point. It would certainly be nice from a marketing standpoiint to hit that $99,995 price point for the package, but it's just not realistic in today's market. You also...

    Flexing of cockpit deck

People often assume that a boat dealer has thoroughly checked out every boat in his inventory. The reality is that dealers rarely do so- because often their inventory is consigned. Unless they take it in trade, there is no reason for them to invest the resources (time and money) to evaluate a...

    Help needed--underway

Acyually, this is the only one that I've seen actually claim it can be used in place of XD-100 in E-Tec's that have been programmed that way. My answer to customers who have called and say "It's $5.00 leass a gallon" is- what did you pay for your new motor? Are you willing to risk that money to...

    Help needed--underway

We repowered a 22 Cruiser with twin 60 E-Tecs, and yes, at idle the harmonics of the boat were not great as the whole boat rattled. Just above idle the noise and vibration went away. I think it is due to the large displacement two cylinder design, and with two of them at idle, if they are not...

    Help needed--underway

Do not add oil to the fuel, or run an E-Tec on premixed gas. You can damage the injectors which is a very costly repair. Also note that there are a couple of companies promoting that their synthetic oil is acceptable in Evinrude engines and it implies that E-Tec is included. It is not. These...

    BOTTOM PAINT and moisture sealant

This is an ongoing discussion and there are varying opinions about barrier coating. We will barrier coat a hull at customer request, but it is expensive, and we have done it less than a handful of times. In cold salt water blistering is less of an issue, and depending on the year, The C-Dory's...

    Flexing of cockpit deck

As dealers, we have to be very careful with apologies. Unfortunately in today's world "I'm sorry to hear that" gets turned into it being the dealer's fault. Since you had the boat surveyed, this is entirely on the surveyor. How does he miss a soft spot in the core of that size? We encourage...
