    Intuition to Alaska - 2021

The thought of this magnificent trip (and, yes, so much thanks for sharing it with us as you have), and St Louis made me smile! Clearly, there are folks in this world who know how to dream.

Pulled Daydream Out of Blaine Marina

A data point....... I leave my boat on a mooring ball for weeks at a time here in the cooler climate of the Pacific NW. I do not have bottom paint. I find that if I pull the boat every 3 weeks and pressure wash the bottom (as well as trim tabs, engine, etc) all is well. I can push that to 4...

    Canada - US Border

OK, great. Now we're getting somewhere :). So allow me to take your definition and substitute it for the phrase "free-flowing" in the sentence you have claimed is fact. So do you maintain as fact that: Mark, do you really believe as fact that the migration across our southern border is best...

    Canada - US Border

How would you define the meaning in the English language of the phrase "free flow"?

Navigating Deception Pass (Whidbey Island, WA)

BIG thanks, Pat, for posting that link of the story pole in Deception Pass State Park. I was very touched by the "spirit" of the video. We ALL love this land/sea, do we not! I was particularly taken when the lovely lady said that the Samish language was like the wind in the trees given the...

How to wire a VSR to allow disabling for boat storage

Just to close the loop on this thread....... I ended up wiring the new 716 switch/VSR cluster as per the manufacturer's recommendations. Turns out there appears to be a great deal of misunderstanding regarding how a VSRs (ACRs) work, and especially how multi-output chargers work. I spent a lot...

How to wire a VSR to allow disabling for boat storage

Ferg, I think you are misunderstanding what I'm trying to do. I assume you understand that when you say "wire it to the engine side of the start battery" that is not what I'm doing. What I'm talking about correctly said is "wire it to the engine side of the start battery switch". My scheme...

How to wire a VSR to allow disabling for boat storage

Well, my plan is to do something a bit different that either of the manufacturer options you mention. I don't plan to use either a toggle switch or wire the VSR to the ignition switch. That's why I am a bit unsure about my plan. It seems to me that wiring that red wire to the engine side of the...

How to wire a VSR to allow disabling for boat storage

I'm about to install a new BEP 716-Sq-140A-Dvsr cluster of switches and VSR. The VSR has a special loop of wire that can be cut (see image below) so that one can install a toggle switch which disables the VSR totally. I want to do this so that when the boat is in storage, and on my dual output...

    Navigation Lights Are Dead

I think the only way you are going to trouble shoot this situation is to carefully measure voltages at all involved points under various conditions (i.e., switch on, switch off, etc), and then to think it thru to see "what's wrong with this picture (i.e., the voltages you found)".

Why didn't I blow my alternator??

OK, I get it now. When I turned off the start battery via the switch, I basically did the same thing as tuning off the ignition key.....so wonder the engine quit .

Why didn't I blow my alternator??

I've been analyzing the AC and DC configurations on my boat because I'm pretty sure I have some wiring errors (mostly surrounding how the batteries are configured and charged). Yesterday, I did perhaps a foolish thing. Can anyone explain it? While underway with both the starter and house...

Onboard dual bank charger and VSR issue

Yep! Ironically, Ferg's question, which I attempted to answer, has resulted in Ferg giving me the answer to a question I didn't know I had  :D :D . I realize now that I had battery isolators and VSRs (perhaps could be called a "combiner") conflated. My previous thinking on how all this...
