    25 Tug questions...answered!

I took the time to do some research on the Allweather 8 meter and was very impressed with what I discovered. The bad news is that Homer Hughes is no longer building the boats. There have been only 32 or so built since the mid 1970s and most of them are in Alaska. Homer does have a 1988 boat for...

Solution for spring line on TC 255 and C D 25

Bob, I overlooked the part about 3/8" line. I can see how the carabiner would be a better fit in that case. The general concept is great, though. Especially when single-handing. Thanks for sharing. Jim

Solution for spring line on TC 255 and C D 25

West Marine has a snap hook that has a 1/2" eye cast in and has a 3300lb breaking strength. WM part #116095. $39.49. This looks like a great idea for an easy to get at spring line. This place is amazing. Got a problem? Get an answer immediately! Jim

The Cosmic C is on the Great Loop at last.

Pat and Mary, Glad to hear you got off Lake Michigan in one piece. The weather really got nasty with those ne winds blowing up the waves on this end. I hope your river trip is smooth and those barges let you have a little bit of room. If you ever have a chance to see the river and canal...

Flood / Docking Lights Mounted on Radar Arch

Bill (Da Nag) I assume that you ran the wiring inside the bow pulpit rail but I'm not clear on how and where it enters the boat. Could you please clarify that for me? Thanks, Jim

Pat and Mary, Welcome to Chicago! I wish I had known where you were staying. My son raced in the triathlon that went right past your dock today and maybe we could have hooked up for dinner. Are you planning to spend more time in Chicago? Let me know and perhaps I can arrange something. Jim

The Cosmic C is on the Great Loop at last.

Pat, Here's some good news about the Wilson Lock from the Nashville Tennessean newspaper. Thursday, 08/17/06 State briefs: Wilson Lock barge jam expected to break TENNESSEE Officials are hoping to get traffic along the Tennessee River moving again today after an accident at the Wilson Lock...

The Cosmic C is on the Great Loop at last.

Pat, I'm sorry you got a bit of the Lake Michigan "smackdown" but, trust me, it's normal for the lake to do that. And I'm sure that you relied on the marine weather forecasts before you left. You discovered what all Great Lakes sailors eventually learn: Don't trust the NWS! They're a bunch of...

The Cosmic C is on the Great Loop at last.

Pat and Mary, When you leave the Charlevoix area, you might want to consider making the lake crossing sooner rather than later as the weather starts to change in late August and early September. You'll get more intense high pressure systems moving across the midwest which bring much cooler air...

Fishing for Salmon w/Not for Hire!

Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes comprising the largest body of fresh water on earth. While it is, indeed, a lake, one should never confuse it with a harmless little body of water. It (and all four of its sisters) can often behave very badly. Given the propensity of rapidly...

    Sprint/400 windlass

I would do some research on anchoring and anchor rodes before switching to braided rope for your rode. Three strand is more elastic and serves as a shock absorber when anchored when the wave action kicks up a bit. That helps prevent the boat from snapping and also aids in keeping the anchor...

Porta Potti restrictions in Canadian waters

I checked the specs on the 775 MSD and see that it is 16" tall. Does that still allow the v-berth filler to be used or would the shorter (13") model 735 MSD be necessary? Jim

Fred, What make and model is your PP? Have you ever used the pump out fitting and if so, how did it work? Thanks, Jim

Porta Potti restrictions in Canadian waters

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. Your input is helpful. Especially Mark from Cadillac, Michigan. Thanks for taking the time to post that very thorough response. Making porta potties illegal seems to be such a silly law. Not what one would expect from the Canadians. Now, having that come...

Porta Potti restrictions in Canadian waters

According to the Office of Boating Safety at Transport Canada, portable toilets are illegal in Ontario waters. I have two questions: 1. Is this the case in all Canadian waters? 2. How do C Brats with porta pottis deal with this issue? Thanks for your help. Jim Hopeful CD owner in the...

    Wallas or not?

I just Googled the Kenyon stoves and found the single burner recessed type listed on the Kenyon web site. However, when looking for a source to buy from, the only listing was from Fore and Aft Marine and they show the product as discontinued. Kenyon does make a table top single burner called...

    Single-handing through locks.

Thanks everyone for some great input. As I read your replies, it dawned on me that I was worrying about what is essentially an apples and oranges sort of thing. It gave me a "Duh!?!" kind of moment. Our sailboat displaced about 13,000 pounds. With her semi-full keel, she could be a bit of a...

    Single-handing through locks.

I am newly registered at this site but I have been reading posts here as a guest for more than a year. This is a great site filled with amazing information put forth by people who obviously love their boats and care deeply about the C-Dory community. My wife and I spent many years cruising the...
