    SV Panope Anchor Testing

Overall this thread has been a bit to deep in the weeds for me, but I have learned some new things about the latest anchors available & glad Dave has taken the considerable time & effort to share his thoughts & information gathered. Also, as always Bob’s shared knowledge & experiences add...

Late 80's 22' Angler repower. Weight concern Tohatsu 90hp

Tohatsu makes a good motor & I think you will be ok with its weight. CD 22 Catclaw ran with a 2018 Honda 115 weighing 478 pounds. Our CD22 with 29,000 miles logged over the last 20 some years has Twin Honda 60’s since 2019 weighing combined, the same as the older Honda 115. I do have trim...

    13 ft Heavy Duty Kaboat

Steve, I agree the 13 footer can be more than a handful, but I sure love it, while out exploring. I too have the 12 footer & it with the 2.5 Suzuki is my preferred choice now if cruising by myself. When JoLee’s along the 13’ stability makes it worth the extra weight hassle. I use to, like...

Emergency Medical Insurance for Canada cruising

Colby, thanks for the good information about the IMG plan. I too hate paying for insurance & have pressed my luck in avoiding it, having made 13 Alaska/Canada roadtrips & cruises with the C-Dory & another 5 road trips, some while towing a RIB & exploring remote rivers & lakes involving...

    Charging Dual Batteries

What you are asking is something, I’ve been doing similar to for years with my twins, when running one motor during displacement speed cruising & setting the switch to all, combining both my batteries & have the single running motor charge both batteries at the same time, while both batteries...

Epilogue to Great Lakes to Inland Rivers Loop Segment Adventure (on FindPenquins)

John Wow! A wonderful cruise, then you two were put through the wringer. Glad it wasn’t worse, as in no serious injuries & the boat escaping major damage, but what a mess to deal with. The possibility of an accident while towing to & from the boat cruising has always been more of a concern to...

This years mega land slide & tsunami in Tracy Arm, SE Alaska

I’ve been somewhat concerned about rock slide caused waves since our first trip into Fords Terror in 2004. On that trip going into the west arm, we could see where a large slide had come down in the resent past & the area of the mountain straight above looked unstable. On that time there, all...

This years mega land slide & tsunami in Tracy Arm, SE Alaska

The link is to a couple excellent articles about the mega landslide & tsunami in Tracy Arm, SE Alaska this year on August 10. The unique 65 foot tour boat MV David B with its Captain & wife were anchored in near by Fords Terror, when this event occurred & along with describing how it affected...

    Starlink Internet?

The being able to use inside the boat is really good to know. I will be experimenting with that in addition to having the Kaboat dingy mounted on the roof to see if it interferes.

    Starlink Internet?

To mount on the boat, I’m planning like Jody to use a rail mount, but with me, it will be on the bow rail & then run the cable down through the present anchor hawse, which is unused since installing a windless. Again like Jody, power on the boat will come from a power station, a Jackery 1000...

    Starlink Internet?

I purchased a Starlink mini in October, then set it up for a test run at home on the 50 GB plan for $50 a month. It worked great, so put it in stand by for $5 a month, until we leave for Alaska in April. We are really looking forward to having internet access for weather & all the other...

It's those damn disc brake calipers again

Colby, I sure understand your frustration with the brakes, as I know you’re good about preventive maintenance. Perhaps the sourcing or supply chain of the pads are ending up with you getting inferior pads. I now have 68,000 miles on my present electric over hydraulic brakes with only one...

    First Overnighter

Over the last 23 years, we have several times spent three months in a row on board & 1311 nights aboard total with all, other than a few rough water windy nights at anchor & some extended weeks with an injured knee comfortable & enjoyable. Making it even more so, we added 1.5 inches of foam...

Adding Photos to album on new site?

Sorry, I can’t help, as I’m hesitant to add photos or video to my photo media thinking it could add to the present problems there. Presently if I go to my photo media it shows 63 pages under my media of which more than half are not mine, while at the same time many of my actual photos from the...

    New C-Dory Site

After 20 years of almost daily & at times more than daily, being on the old site, this one with all it’s advantages does take some getting used to. The thing is as Taboo emphasized, without the change, all the old would have eventually been lost, so I’m very grateful for all the time & effort...

    Left Speechless

Ken, I’m sure glad you two were able to have that unique exhilarating experience & though very rare it doesn’t always remain a once in a lifetime experience, as it has happened several times to us with both orcas & humpback whales with each time being just as great as the first. They both can...

Recommended anchor rope and chain for 23 Venture Sport

Buck, for your windless I believe you should use the 1/4 inch HT G4 chain as the BBB most likely won’t work properly. The BBB might work some, but will be more prone to jam.

Recommended anchor rope and chain for 23 Venture Sport

For the PNW, the first 12 years & especially the first few before having access to the C-Brat knowledge base, I experimented with different anchors, their weights & various chain & rode lengths & my hands for a windless. This culminated in 2015 to my adding a Lewmar 700H windless, 25# Manson...
