More fresh water: Inexpensive & simple solution

I have contemplated adding an additional water tank to the void under the V berth on our ‘07 25 Cruiser. Water, fuel & ice are always our limiting factors when out on longer trips and we enjoy being on the hook vs always in marinas. I added a solar panel system for the same reasons. After...

Replacement Electronics Shelf + possible mods

I used marine ply that has a white surface for the shelf itself and used teak for the front face. Teak was pricey. One could use other types of wood like mahogany; probably less boat units. I coated it with teak oil. Nice soft, warm sheen.

    Nano Quartz Coating

It’s the most near horizontal colored surface so it takes a brunt of the sun etc. Our black brow will always haze the quickest of all the color in the boat. From my car resto days; white shows the least degradation due to pigments in the paint. Red the most. The pigments needed to make red...

    help finding gasket material

The only solutions to both issues are this: replace all hatches with one that don’t leak. Here is the hatch replacement for the 25. I’ve done it and they are a massive improvement. http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=26390&highlight=hatches I know the 22 hatches have also been covered ad...

    Wallas cooktop/heater

We have a Honda 2000. Mainly use it for the water heater; run it for 20-30 minutes and the 6 gallons is plenty hot. It is a generator and despite it being a quiet Honda, it still makes noise. As a result, I mostly run it while we are underway. I have run it at anchor to heat water or charge...

    Wallas cooktop/heater

Just our two cents: we had a Wallas. It came with the boat which was fitted out already. It was neither a good stove nor a good heater. It took a long time to boil water and we had a hard time controlling the heat output when cooking. It only gave us one trouble and that was on start up...

    Boat Cover

Our new cover came with re-enforced circles with female snaps front and rear centerline (cockpit & foredeck). I made simple tent-poles out of 1/2” ply and 2X2s. 8 inch square bases, the 2X2 mounted and then small round pieces of the plywood with the edge rounded over. I covered the base with...

Tollycraft 34 vs CC 26 - worth it to make the wife happy

I’d agree. But in Florida...or better yet, Hawai’i...a fly bridge is a wonderful place to steer or hang out in at anchor.

Tollycraft 34 vs CC 26 - worth it to make the wife happy

Jim covered it and well. One more thing to consider; check on what slips cost in our area and know that if the Tolly does not come with one that you can take over, you’ll be on a waiting list or lists. Last time I checked in mid-summer most were at least a year, some more.

    Gotta Sell - Need Advice

The Maguiars will work. Do a small area at a time and not in the sun. There are “how to” videos on YouTube etc. I used a big, heavy buffer but a smaller DA random orbital type might work too and the chance of burning will be lessened. Wipe off residue with micro-fiber towels and then polish...

    Gotta Sell - Need Advice

There is no easy, simple way to re-condition gelcoat. Even with a buffer it’s work and once buffed, has to be polished/waxed to protect it from the elements. I’ve used Meguiar’s Marine/RV Heavy Duty Oxidation Remover and it works well, but you have to do it properly or you’ll burn the gelcoat.

    Wrong turn=Bad boating day!

I have zero desire to do the “Great Loop”. Big cities, dirty water, rivers...yuck. The entire mid-west portion of the route, to me, has nothing that attracts me. Give me a white sand beach or a quiet cove any day. I’ll do the ICW, the Gulf etc, but the Mighty Mississippi is not my cup of tea.
