    Fishwisher’s core rot removal

Update: I ended up going with 4 sheets of 3/4 from the link Barry provided above and have installed the balsa and glassed everything -so far I am happy with the results. I didn’t take pictures of the process because it was 90 degrees out and I had to work at a steady pace but I posted a few...

    Greetings from New Member

I use a kill bag instead of a cooler to store my catch and it’s out of the way because deck space is a premium for me which is why I bought an angler- a cruiser has a few feet less fishing room but you gain a sink and cooktop. There is also a live well in my port lazarette. If the photo didn’t...

    New generation Yamaha F90 opinions

I bought the new Yamaha F90 at the end of 2019 For 10k - it replaced an older Suzuki 70 - as far as power I think it’s definitely enough for what I use it for (fishing) and has plenty of power to get out of the hole and on plain quickly especially with a Permatrim. Fuel consumption is minimal I...

Update to core rot and removal.

Jackie, Below is a link to boatworks today. He has a bunch of videos on boat fiberglass repair and worth a look. Another video series that is helpful is “west system epoxy” on YouTube. https://youtu.be/JAtjHjJhBV0 Fish on!

Update to core rot and removal.

Jackie, Just wanted to update you on what I ended up ordering for balsa. I looked at Barry’s link he sent me http://www.fiberglasssupply.com/ I ended up ordering 4 sheets of 3/4 that measure 24x48 inches (8 sq ft) For a total of $211.00 and they even gave me a military discount, shipping was...

    Fishwisher’s core rot removal

30”x30” x1-1/2 inch thick is $165 + shipping - I need two of that size so the cost is $395  then I saw Barry’s post today and put a call into the supplier he suggested ( thanks Barry). I also posted pictures of the second half of the detour on the starboard side in my album. We will see...

    Power, listing, and more

Simple question but are you trimming the motor up as you gain speed or as you say step up ( I’m assuming getting on plane )? I noticed when I first took out my 22 I had a similar response without trimming the engine. And I agree with Bob as far as steering play. Just my two cents.

    Fishwisher’s core rot removal

Thanks Barry I’m currently researching and appreciate your thoughts - I definitely cut back far enough to hard core material and it’s been in the 70’s here so I’m letting it sit in the sun for the next few days to make sure everything is bone dry. If the balsa is too pricey I’m going to look...

    Fishwisher’s core rot removal

Bob, It sure didn’t seem that the balsa I removed had any type of separation or resin filled kerfs (if my understanding is correct as to kerfs) under the fuel tanks. There is a very slight curve from outside edges to center of boat aft. but I plan on saturating the new core in un-thickened...

    Fishwisher’s core rot removal

Jackie, I found a place in Colorado that can do 1-1/2 Balsa and am expecting a response in a few days for a price (I think it’s pretty pricey but we’ll see). Yes I was in the U.S. Marines from 94-2001 as a Longshoreman and a “PMI” (marksmanship instructor).

    Fishwisher’s core rot removal

I didn’t want to hijack Jackie’s thread so I started my own - seems like there is a lot of us fixing rotten balsa as of late! I posted pictures in my album today as to what I have found so far under my port side fuel tank and plan on exploring the starboard side tomorrow and will probably find...
