Interesting, but not as fun as a C-Dory

And all I ever wanted was a CD-22 with radar, GPS plotter/depth finder, compass, a camper canvas, 90 HP 4 stroke, 15 HP 4 stroke kicker, and fuel tanks to run around 250 miles, loaded. Am I asking too little????? :D Jim

Bilge question - where is the water coming from?

Thanks, to everyone with information about water intrusion problems on some C-Dory's. That's the beauty of this forum: knowledgeable members willing to share information. As a rookie in the C-Dory world, I appreciate everyone's input. I'll just try to pick a great boat when the time comes...

Bilge question - where is the water coming from?

Folks I'd been serious about buying a C-Dory and up until the last couple of days I assumed the design with the glass enclosed balsa wood and the manner that the boats were manufactured, that they were a top line boat for the money. Now having read about all of the water intrusion problems into...

Thanks for the web site information Randy. I'll get on the site and take a look. Regards, Jim

    CD-16 Cruiser Transom Height

Thanks for the information Randy. I see you are listed as a dealer; do you handle used C-Dory's from time to time? If you do, send me your web site address and I'll take a look when you get something available. It's great that I would have only a three hour drive to get to St Louis to look at a...

    CD-16 Cruiser Transom Height

Can someone please tell me what the transom height is on the CD-16 Cruiser? It looks like it may be 20" but I'm not sure. I'm not with-in 600 miles of a boat, so I can't run out and get the measurement. Couldn't find the height on the C-Dory web site. Thanks, Jim :D

    Indianapolis Boat Show

Hi Patrick, out all of the boats I saw at the show there were two that would have been suitable for the Inside Passage trip, if they had a full camper enclosure installed. These were cuddys, with very nice v-berths, stove, fridge, table, head, and other options on board. Now the down side...

    Indianapolis Boat Show

I went to the Indianapolis Boat Travel and RV Show yesterday and while there were a bunch of really nice boats, there was only one pilothouse boat; a Coast Guard boat (not for sale). Now I know I'm in the mid-west, but, North of me are the Great Lakes (4 hour drive), East of me is 22,000 acre...

    Toland 18-8

Hi Don, thanks for the pictures of the Toland 18-8. It's nice to see the boat up close. I was looking at Ben Toland's new boat, the Marinaut 205 and it's hull has a lot of similarity with the 18-8. Darn, I think I'm really going to like that boat also!! So many boats, so little time. :D Jim

    Value of Autopilot

Bob, thanks for the link to your Bligh Reef encounter. I know that situation can easily happen to anyone. I also allow a percentage over the cost of a boat, either for problems that might not be evident on shakedown, or to upgrade something on the boat. Yes, I'd certainly change anything on a...

    Value of Autopilot

Hi Cris, I wouldn't be doing much trolling, but I think the autopilot would be a great help in cross current/wind direction conditions. Just having the ability to relax on long straight portions of a trip and be alert to what the boat traffic and water/wind conditions are doing, would be nice. I...

    Value of Autopilot

Thanks for the replies from everyone. It sure gives me a lot of information to digest. My reasoning for adding autopilot is that the trips that I have planned, will for the most part, be long trips and solo. That is unless the martians land and put a hex on my wife's thinking about small boats...

    Value of Autopilot

I can't remember which member of the "Brats" posted about the value of having a autopilot on his boat, but anyone with a autopilot, please feel free to chime in. The person mentioned, that by having the autopilot on his boat, it allowed him the freedom of being able to use binoculars, and attend...

    Toland 18-8

Harvey, that's a great close up picture of the 18-8 and just confirmed why I love the boat so much. In all white, that boat has beautiful lines. Although it's the predecessor to the C-Dory line, the hull shape is slightly different. Thanks, Jim

    Toland 18-8

Patrick, you sure made a beautiful boat out of the CD-18. It really looks sharp running down the river. Dave I noticed that it was different than the 18-8, but one thing that finally turned the light on in my feeble brain and the reason I liked the 18-8 so much . When I saw the CD-18 after the...

    Toland 18-8

Thanks for all of the information on the 18-8. I e-mailed Monty and the boat has been sold. There's just something about that boat that I really like and I can't put my finger on what it is. I agree that it would be nice to see someone start making the boat again, leaving the hull like it is and...

    Toland 18-8

Thanks Dave. That cuts the number down even more, so I would imagine that it'll be hard to find one. The good or bad thing (depending on how you look at it) is that most people get a great boat and they really don't put them up for sale very often unless they outgrow it. :? Jim

    Toland 18-8

Thanks, Mark. That's not many boats, but, maybe there's one floating around out there that someone's ready to sell. :D Jim

    Toland 18-8

While I was looking at the brochure on the 18-8 I saw that it was rated up to 75 hp. I think a new 50 or 70 hp motor would really work well on that boat. I e-mailed Monty just to see if he still had the boat: I'd sure like to take a look at it! :D Jim
