tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

excuse my ignorance. that was the 26' venture that was suggested earlier. and i really don't know all the subtleties and differences the venture has with the pro-angler?

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

if this 26' is the ultimate cdory, i honestly can't see why it would still be available 12 months from now? but actually Jason has raised my awareness of this rare bird a few posts earlier. it's funny though, some guys suggest the RF246 as a top pick, while others say that shouldn't even be on...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

1st boat and 1st wife is a good one. although, i've been lucky at one, i'd be really pushing my luck to think i'm ready for this one quite yet. i've gotten to know a bit of what i want, things pay attention to, etc. getting the right hull and right sized boat to grow into, is focus for now.

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

thanks marc, i was kind of really hoping to finding my boat on the west coast, but you certainly are the man i'm looking for. my wife is never mad at a trip to FL either. i will have to keep in mind, early spring of 2018. that will at least have me closer to getting serious about a purchase.

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

thanks phil, i really appreciate that. the feedback i really hoping for (what my post was intended) my wife deals with her weak stomach by keeping post horizontal most of the time aboard. although, she applies this same technique at home, so ummm anyway? i believe whatever i decide, it will fit...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

i hadn't any attentions of making a 40 mile run on a maiden voyage? if asked, i'd project any of those (a good year) into my ownership? 90% of my usage would be 10 miles within land, but i'd like to invest in the right boat, most capable for a few tuna runs (1 or 2 seasons from now, and with...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

SOH, you seem to touch upon what my intuition tells me. i'm here to learn what i can, know what boats to narrow into sea trials, and what to look for when i do. a minute ago, i hadn't known there was much difference between the 25'and 26'? . . . the venture is on my radar now. as far as deep Vs...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

art, thanks so much for that. again, my wife won't ever see 40 miles out, even with her claiming she will. and of course, she (expects) a bathroom w/door. i just can't bank too much in what she wants now, not knowing what she'll want next week. i see myself sleeping a lot at anchor off catalina...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

much good criticism. and on top of my wife's seasickness, she has the woman's prerogative of changing her mind like the wind. 1 am certainly not resting a $50K+ purchase on that? she'll be gung-ho the 1st time out, and it'll be hell to pay, if she's ever aboard when things get rough. my post is...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

i concur. comfort (and cost) is a relative thing. i've been doing 2 fishing charters a month, spending$1,000/month. my wife stays in a hotel, while i'm shoulder to shoulder, dealing with line tangles on a VERY compromised time on the water. the fun i'll have with my wife onboard, on ANY boat...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

i expect to be relocating to within 15 miles of shore, so hauling and dry storing my vessel at home during the week will help towards maintenance costs. the abundant cat space is the real icing on the cake to T255's stability. the seasport 24 does have a full head, unlike the cdory 22, which...

tomcat vs other cdorrys for offshore?

i'm a year away from getting my 1st boat, perhaps even my only boat. i'm super sold on the cdorys, but also been looking at rosborough r246 and seasports. once i do have my own boat, i'll no longer be doing my offshore overnight charters out of southern CA. also, i will have my wife aboard in my...

    tomcat as a first boat???

roger, it wasn't my assumption or sentiment that your buddies were slackers. just the opposite. making the point, you're getting something back from them. and so i'm pro-rating the cost of a group outing, i don't expect me and my wife to $1,200 per trip to bottom fish a few miles out on a...

    tomcat as a first boat???

roger, you sound like you are a full-out fishing set up, gear, gas, live bait, multiple fish boxes, going out far, tons of ice. as you've said, it all tallies up to a trip you can easily run you $1,200. however, my question is, it sounds like a fishing crew all reaping benefits? man, i'd be...

    tomcat as a first boat???

a question for roger, you have 7 pumps, going on 8. my question is, you have to fishbox pumps and are about to add a live bait pump. couldn't you just get 1 pump 3 times the GPM, and split off to all 3 tanks? after all, it's not a safety issue, where redundancy is so crucial. again, i'm just...

    tomcat as a first boat???

the trade-offs seem pretty clear. that stability and handling of the offshore conditions would be soooo nice to have. the added expense and added difficulty in trailering, particularly to a newcomer, has pushed me away (for now). i can't relocate to the coastal community fast enough.

    tomcat as a first boat???

couple points to make: "tomcat as a 1st boat" was the title of this thread, that was taking into account the perils of towing this monstrosity, doubling up the maintenance on (2) 150hps, all it's extra pumps, etc all from a new owner (albeit skilled in repairs), perhaps where i might scale...

what's the alternative? a 5 gallon bucket with your custom cut seat/lid?

    tomcat as a first boat???

jbdba01, honestly it felt like i was reading much of my own words. i don't get the guys that harp on a boat being a bad investment. save it for someone buying a boat as an investment? my first car was a 20 yr old 66 mustang i paid $400 for and sold after college for $9k. my 2nd was a 98' jeep...

    tomcat as a first boat???

it's nice to hear someone with experience, having a little different take on towing. however, 1) i do go over to big mountain ranges from Las Vegas to San Diego. 2) once i have my boat, my 600 mile trips are in stone. it's "the pacific or nothing" according to my salt water loving wife. 3)...
