exactly right about towing... The factory was getting complaints that the windows were getting "foggy" and were not holding up. Some investingation showed it was pitting from towing wear-and-tear. External covers, and voila'. Not as good as the idea of foam rubber backing as just mentioned...

If by popping off you mean the rubber is bulging out of the track, it is really no big deal. The easiest way is to get a heat gun (spelled hair dryer) and warm up the bulging rubber and push back in place (faster with a rubber mallet). Better placement of the fenders will help prevent it in...
