    C-Dorys Downeast

I think there's a "sightings" thread somewhere but couldn't find it, sorry. Anyhow, dateline Southwest Harbor, Maine: Yesterday - Cruiser 25, NY registration, twin Hondas, sighted briefly at Beals Lobster Wharf. Past month or so - Cruiser 22 at a private float just a few piers N of Beals...

    Depth transducer location?

Thanks for the good ideas! Matt and Doryman, how did you discover the solid uncored hull section was there - and its location? I haven't received the 25 manual yet but am not expecting that kind of detail even if such a hull area exists in the boat.

    Depth transducer location?

I'm planning to install a Garmin plotter/sounder combination, am deliberating on transducer location and wondering what the arguments are for and against transom mount vs. thru-hull aside from the thru-hull presumably being more effectively located. There's also the "shoot through the hull"...

Water intrusion from trim tab mounting?

In the case of smaller screwholes (NOT below the waterline) where oversized drilling may not be desireable cosmetically I'm wondering whether squirting in some "Git-Rot" (assuming it's still on the market) might be helpful. It wouldn't penetrate as well as if the balsa were presenting its...

    anchoring a CD-25

Just curious: Looking to get an idea of average chain size used by those using a signicant length of it, like over 25'. If there's a windlass the gypsy dictates the size of the links? In the case of a windlass I assume a rope to chain splice may be required? On the sailing at anchor subject...

Ready to Buy - New vs. Used?

Thanks, Pete, your observations are reassuring and you're right that as a "potential" I'm not that familiar with C-Dorys. My worries are based primarily on some horrific core problems encountered during years of fooling around with sailboats. I think you will find the issue raised as it...

Ready to Buy - New vs. Used?

After thought: The change in coring material may apply only to the new Venture line???

Ready to Buy - New vs. Used?

Still boatless here too, looking, and debating the new vs. used issue. The core saturation concerns expressed above are a big worry to me as well. However I've been told, and I'm sure someone here can verify this, that recently a different core material replaced the balsa. Unfortunately I...

Current draw of Coleman Polar Cub air conditioner

Even less than 2¢ worth here: No figures such as Thataway is able to cite but a Honda 2000 EU runs the 13.5K unit on our RV just fine in econ mode. The dealer who sold us the RV runs these 13.5K units (and maybe bigger) with a 1000 w generator all the time so surely worth a try. I hear modern...

    Right on! Thanks very much!

    Innards and Outards

A recent search here lead me to some photos in the albums of interior teak trim. I'd like to find them again but can't seem to, nor can I recall boat or owner's name. All I remember is that the person who posted them calls interior photos "innards" and exterior photos "outards". Is this a...

    Survey, yes or no?

Many thanks to all who responded! Excellent spread of opinions, all instructive and much appreciated. And yes, this site's a terrific resource! Have been on lists previously for other boats and none came close in terms of "substance". The result of your replies: From the guy who surveyed our...

    Survey, yes or no?

Getting pretty serious about a 2000 22' Cruiser from a dealer who assures that all systems will be functional on delivery. Insurers aren't insisting on a survey. It strikes me that the wide experience of many here might make them comfortable with their own thorough inspection of a potential...

    C-25 Instrument & Autopilot Installation

Handsome installations! And I envy you the 25! Wanted to mention, though, that you should be able to get a digital voltmeter for around $35 online. I installed one recently, added an off/on switch but read battery levels individually by switching the master (not inconvenient in my case).

    Trim tab question

Still fooling around at the drawingboard. Current thinking is that if portapotti's a major problem for us we can find out much cheaper in a 22 than a 23. So we're looking at a used 22 without trim tabs. Question: How essential are trim tabs considered to be? Especially to someone completely...

    Considering used CD22

First, a great site you folks have here! I've probed only a little but found a lot of information (if I continued digging likely would find my questions answered already). Nevertheless: coming off years of sail (some liveaboard periods) and am thinking of a boat for use winters here in FL that...

    Possibilities of core saturation?

Thank you for the responses. Yes, in the absence of anything more solid than balsa I'd be concerned about compression as well as water migration, also. But I have no idea how substantial the fiberglass "bread" in this sandwich is, either. Anyhow, it appears C-Dory does it the way most...

    Possibilities of core saturation?

Another non-owner but thinking. Can anyone here tell me whether the hull and deck layup of the CD22 incorporates solid glass in way of penetration points for fitting bolts and thruhulls? You'd hate to think these holes were drilled through the balsa core. (Beware: this is probably the first...
