    09/22 to 09/23 - Lake Powell 2018

Colby, it’s up lake about 10 miles from Bullfrog/Halls. Put Annie’s Canyon on your list, too. There is a great alcove in one of the arms that you can boat into. Kill the engine, drift and swim. It’s about mile 84.

Look what I found on an old 22

That’s pretty cool! It’s been a while since I’ve seen one.

Colby, we have 10 boats signed up, and there are occasionally last minute folks pop in. We are probably going to be about two days ahead of you. Typically some members of the group do a trip up the Escalante and San Juan rivers, and to Forgotten Canyon to see Defiance House. Fuel shouldn’t...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I finally got tired of not hearing radio transmissions, and installed an external VHF speaker today. Neither radio had a jack, so I had to hardwire it in. The trailer got four new ST 205/75 R14 Goodyear Endurance (Made in USA) load range D tires this morning. Max pressure 65 PSI, for a load...

I just saw a warning on the Glen Canyon web site advising people to always wear water shoes because of tiny and sharp mussel shells. Not only is there a chance of cuts, but also the potential for an infection/sepsis. In 2015, we had one member helicoptered out with sepsis, so it can happen. Steve

Bob, I get up several times as well. Age related  , and I also check location bearings.

Solo Anchoring w/ No Windlass Tips?

I had the same rational when I bought my boat, but 13 years later and now in my 70s, it’s going to be my next big gear purchase. An ambulance ride because my back hurt so bad I couldn’t get off the floor helped with the decision.

    Worry Box Question

Thanks everyone. At current water levels, my guess is the ramp is a good 400 yards long. I guess the best thing is to make a choice when I get there, but it sounds doable.

    Worry Box Question

Sort of related to towing. I’m thinking of leaving the camper on the truck for the trip to and from Lake Powell. While I have launched the boat with the camper on, I have always backed down all the way on relatively short ramps. At Powell, the ramps are huge, and most people drive down, make...

Solo Anchoring w/ No Windlass Tips?

Chad, you’re best option for retrieving is from the deck. I recommend you find a slough with a minimum amount of current. The slough at Martin Island is an excellent choice. I’m sure you know to be very careful to not let the rode wrap around the lower unit whe you’re in a current. A lot...

    John McCain

We lost an American hero tonight. Senator McCain has died. While I often disagreed with his politics, I have the utmost respect for him. Sixty years of service to the nation. Fair winds and following seas on your journey, Senator.
