    Apology

Crapola! I inadvertently deleted all the incoming PMs in my mailbox--before I had a chance to reply to them. If you're expecting a response from me, please refresh my memory with a brief PM. --Georgs

    Canadian Triangle

Any C-Brats cruising between Kingston, Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston in September? We're planning to run down the St. Lawrence River to Montreal from Lake Ontario, then go up the Ottawa River to Ottawa, returning to Lake Ontario via the Rideau Canal Waterway. --Georgs

Cobb Grill vs Magma Catalina or Newport Grill

Thanks to all who replied to clarify the difference between the Cobb charcoal grill and the Magma gas grills. We'll be ordering the Magma ChefsMate Connoisseur tomorrow. It's several pounds lighter than the Magma Newport. --Georgs

Cobb Grill vs Magma Catalina or Newport Grill

We're trying to make a decision about which gas grill to purchase. We're read much of what has been posted in the past. Does anyone have experience with both the Magma grills AND the Cobb? The Cobb, with its apparent ability to grill, roast, smoke and fry, looks most interesting. If you've...

    Kayak advice needed...

After having a chance to paddle a half-dozen different kayaks, the decision has been made in favor of a folding yak that weighs only 22 pounds: It's the 12-foot-long Puffin Saco. (How the heck does one upload a photo to illustrate a message?) The fact that it will fold down into a duffel bag...

    Kayak advice needed...

Greetings! I've narrowed my kayak search down to AdvancedFrame Solo Touring Kayak and Patriot Kayak. http://tinyurl.com/advancedframe http://tinyurl.com/patriotkayak My primary or initial use of the yak will be fitness, with use while cruising being somewhat secondary. I'm 6 ft 1.5 in and...

    ActiveCaptain

All hands-- I've always been impressed with the informative contribution Jeff Siegel has made over the years to discussions on C-Brats as well as the trawler lists I host. Last summer, I purchased ActiveCaptain Mobile to see what he was up to--and was impressed. What a great navigation tool...

Meanwhile, up in Canada East . . .

We're planning to cruise the Rideau Canal in June and the St.Lawrence River to Montreal in September, both from our home port on Lake Ontario. The Rideau runs 125 miles north from Lake Ontario to Ottawa on the Ottawa River. http://www.rideau-info.com/canal/ From where it starts to empty the...

SSB for Great Lakes waters and VHF upgrade.

VHF is limited by line of sight, so figure 5 to 25 miles, depending upon power and antenna height. Of course there are exceptions. Out on the open ocean, the signal can bounce for hundreds, if not thousands, of miles, but that is rare. --Georgs

    Atlantic ICW

I'm not sure yet. Could ship or trailer the boat home, cruise it north again, leave it down south for future adventures, who knows? --Georgs

    Cuba

Just to update those interested in learning about cruising in Cuban waters, Cuba still is very much on my agenda, possibly for next winter. First, I need to figure out how to get there, thus, my participation in the current discussion under Atlantic ICW. I'll be back to push along the Cuba...

    Atlantic ICW

All hands-- Before the RLG will give her consent to a cruise from Lake Ontario to the Florida Keys, I need to get Her approval on a budget. Here's what I've worked up for a relatively leisurely cruise south, our first time on the ICW: Distance 1,800 miles Average daily...

    Atlantic ICW

Thanks, everyone, for the excellent responses. The gist seems to be that six weeks will be plenty of time to cruise the distance; it could be done in three weeks if the idea were delivery rather than cruise. It would be better to depart from Lake Ontario in September rather than the October I...

    Atlantic ICW

I'm looking for input from C-Brats who have cruised the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. I'm thinking of running my TomCat to the Florida Keys from Lake Ontario in the fall. I've never cruised the ICW and I don't own a truck; thus, the idea of running the 1,800 miles on its own bottom. The idea...

    Cuba

Thanks, Spike, thanks, Norm, for the encouragement. This all is still very much in the daydream stage. I need to work out logistics related to time and money, as I'm still a working man and so is the Admiral. I'm looking at the October-December time frame but all else is still vague. I'll be...
