    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

LA PAZ has cleared up, the high off California diverted clouds south for the last week, still in the 70s but everyone here thinks that is cold, we had so many storms in Big Sur last year it was hard to work on the boat, this year when we are gone, they are enjoying perfect weather this month on...

    Problem of the day

Like Bob's Admiral, Captain Dana would not want a solution that could not be removed and cleaned, it's a nurse thing! A different angle might be to drill a hole in the center of the glass plate with a ceramic tile drill bit and a hole into the rotator deep enough for a non metallic peg epoxied...

    Problem of the day

Sorry for being a smart-ass on your problem, to be serious if the double stick tape doesn't work how about using hi-temp exhaust gasket silicone? Some of the thickened epoxies can have metal in them that could react to the microwaves.

    Problem of the day

I wish that my boat problems involved popping popcorn....lucky guy! Things are popping though, I've got most of mine solved for the moment!

The Zodiac 230 roll up at 49# is just light enough to load up on top of Sierra. The yellow Bouycoat is holding up well.

  11. The start of a great sunset as the shrimp are on the barby. A couple of big superyachts anchored farther out and the mountains of Baja in the background.

Bulkhead under V berth tabbing separating from hull

Often wax is added to the laminating resin that rises to the surface and seals the final fiberglass surface so it will cure without being tacky. Usually it is in the final gellcoat after all laminating is finished so it leaves a nice glossy, smooth surface. If the laminate is waxed before...

    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

Harvey, I'm sure you would have no trouble cruising here, but it is only for experienced boaters. The summer is very calm and when the fishermen come down but it can be very hot. In about a month the temps will rise into the mid 80s and the northers will go away leaving the local mountain winds...

    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

Today's project was to sort out the non working aft bilge pump. The Rule 1500 had failed and the solid state Water Witch switch was good. I walked across the street from the marina to the little marine store and they had a shelf full of Rule pumps and the prize was a new Rule "gold" pump that...
  16. Replacing the failed year old Rule 1500 with a Rule \"Gold\" 5 year warranty one that just snapped in and is a 2000. Gotta love La Paz, walked across the street to a little marine store and they had a stack of pumps, easier than at home! Glad I have wiring stuff on board but I\'m sure they also have all that. .

  17. Our Icom 706 II G SSB/Ham (shortwave, HF) transceiver allows us to check in with the morning safety nets and get a weather forecast every morning, as there is no cell or NOAA here in remote areas. We checked in to both the Ham and non ham SSB nets and they were amazed that at how clear our signal was with a whip antenna all up and down Mexico. (My ground plane install might be over the top but it really works)

    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

We just returned from a few days up at Ensenada Grande anchorage on Isla Partida abot 25 miles to the north. It was mostly cloudy and breezy at times with the wind clocking around so that last night was a good test for our new Rocna Vulcan anchor, it worked like the old Spade we loved, it set...
