New guy with electrical config question?

Some portable chargers don't have a good 3 stage charge profile and long term float compared to the best of the built in marine chargers like the Pro Mariners. Long term with a portable may cook off more water if you have flooded batteries and may be even worse on gels and AGMs. The best...

    Winter Blues

Alain, I am a bit self conscious as a newbie on C-brats, I worry that I may come on to strong with my love of projects that may seem over the top and our love of Mexico. I am proud of how I turned a tired faded C-dory into, I think better than new but there are a lot of ways to skin a cat and...

New guy with electrical config question?

Joe, you are right, the emergency parallel is usually keep the house bank separate from the start to keep it up to start the motor and on if your start battery is low and needs help from the house bank. But you need a way to charge your house so the parallel has to be on when motoring. BUT you...

    Winter Blues

Harvey, now that I think of where you live exploring Baja would be no more difficult for you than north of the crowd in the Pacific northwest. Alain, other than the watermaker Dana wanted and I installed for her so we don't have to lug water jugs and a SSB radio from our last boat this boat (as...

    Trailer Tire Pressure

Colby, thanks for the hub info. They have mixed seal reviews on the internet so I bought a complete extra set and I have an old metal grease cap and hub grease. I also bought a quart of thicker no leak Lucas commercial truck hub oil in case of leaks. Good tip on the silicone grease, I will do...

What can I plug into this???

Even that sounds borderline, we would need to know how many amps at that rpm your motor makes, which may be minimal at low rpms.

Harvey, the radio for weather you can use a good shortwave receiver or just stop by one of the other boats in the anchorage and ask. A lot of the smaller villages only have solar powered watermaker and not a lot of extra. Using our saltwater foot pumps and tank water we have about a weeks range...

    Trailer Tire Pressure

Colby is right, load range Ds run at 65 max, I did change over to Kodiak oil bath hubs so no more greasy hubs or hands and they are running a lot cooler than when they were greased hubs, the seals are good so far after a couple thousand miles, they are still an experiment but great so far.

    Trailer Tire Pressure

John is absolutely right, with my 14s I can only get "8 ply" at 70lbs so a lower load rating compared to my Ranger Tug trailers 15s that I could run at 80 lbs (and always did).

    Winter Blues

As a native Californian I love California, politics is screwed up everywhere in one way or another. That is why a few months a year in Mexico is good for perspective, the politics here have been screwed up for centuries and the cartels make it worse. But in this culture nobody seems to pick a...

    Portable Refrigeration

We have had 3 Engels of various sizes over the years on different boats, we currently are using one on our Baja cruise as a solar run freezer. We love the long term efficiency and reliability, for us worth the extra cost. We did try a Dometic a couple of years ago and used it on our Shasta...

    Idea for freshwater level

Toyman, the tank in our 25 is in the bow, I cut hatches in the top of the berths and dug out all the foam, now the tank in front is visable to check the water level, the little screw in one on the v-berth face looks good for lower levels too. Very simple and more storage space and a spot for a...

    Installing Radio in TomCat

John, I have always in the past tried to keep electronics separate but thought NEMA 2000 would still keep things simple. Our Simrad stuff and the Suzuki digital gage linked together should work because they are both made by Navico.....but trying to make them work as intended together is very...
