    Out of country travel insurance

JamesTXSD, This is also helpful info. I will be checking with friends in Apache Junction to see where they get their insurance as they travel down to Rocky Point a couple times a year. I've been going to Arizona for years in the winter but have never felt the need to take my truck across the...

    Out of country travel insurance

Thank you both for the info. Good starting point to get organized. I think I'll take a trip down to Rocky Point in the truck this winter as a trial run.

    Out of country travel insurance

This question is directed toward those folks that have traveled to Mexico with their C-Dorys. Is it necessary to have additional insurance to travel south of the border for your truck trailer and boat? I know I'll have to check with my insurance agent but just curious how others who have...

    Dinghy boarding from a C-22

I like your dingy. In order to make your dingy a stable platform to exit from, it will need to be secured to the side of the boat where you could then step on the outside of the dingy seat to use as a step to exit over the gunnel of the C-dory. I would consider installing a stainless ring low...

    Being a Snow Bird

Colby there are a few lakes that come to mind when you mentioned Arizona. Up north there is Lake Powell and there are several marinas Around the Page, AZ , then there is Lake Havasu to the west on the Colorado river, and Parker, AZ has RV parks with boat ramps on the river. More toward...

    Winter cruising Hood Canal

Rob, interesting outlook on how the Biggs whales could help the salmon population. My primary fishing grounds were the Claybanks near point Defiance. The seals got so thick and bold down there that they would sit out there watching moochers fish for salmon. As soon as you got a hook up the...

You can give em wings but.....

Well MartyP there is still hope. Years ago, before the R21 got all the fancy stuff added to it, like the extended cab and mast and the little Yanmar was under a box in the middle of the cockpit we owned one. My brother tired to talk us into a 22 C-dory at the time but we weren't feeling it...

Bosch Tronic 3000T ES2.5 Electric Water Heater

Looks to be that you did well to check that anode at this time. That is a lot of corrosion after just 5 or 6 months in the water. This is a wake up call for me to check my anode in the RV. Thanks for posting this. How did the tank look this time?

    Help. Battery question

jrslost, getting back to your original question/challenge. There are several articles which will help to determine what the various battery make ups consist of and although some can be used interchangeably they could cause damage to the system if the wrong combinations are used. What I am...

    Repower due to fumes??

I owned a 2006 90hp Etec and loved it. It was on the back of an 18 ft Olympic boat and I had no issues with exhaust fumes. I had previously owned 90 2 stroke Evinrude the was a little on the rich side so when I got the Etec I was amazed at how clean it burned and how little oil it used. I...

    Used 16 Angler

Congratulations for finding the boat you've been looking for. I've not owned a 16 before but have owned several Olympic boats along the way, one of which was a 16' and I believe it had a 70hp on it. I guess I have more questions than answers for you and maybe food for thought. To start with...

    C-Dorys in Lake Superior area?

Hello Boondock, I have the 25' cruiser and as far as the chop goes, here in the PNW we travel anywhere between Port Orchard, Wa up to Nanaimo, BC where our Son and his family live. So needless to say we encounter a fair amount of chop. I find that the 25 handles it remarkably well. Very...

    Where did everyone go ?

Well Dave, it's hard sayin not knowin. There are a thousand reasons why some folks aren't there. I think some of it may be the way the WDFW is scheduling the salmon seasons. It's hard to plan a fishing/boating vacation if you don't know when the seasons will be. Same goes with the crabbing...

2024 SE Alaska cruise with 13 year old granddaughter

Jay and Wrenny, thank you both for posting your wonderful adventures in Alaska. I've been following with a high interest in doing a similar trip possibly next year. We had to leave last Saturday for our Alaskan cruise (with Norwegian cruise lines) and I was hoping to view your pictures of Ford...

    Outboard Tell Tale Stream

Yes Matt that is correct. Water is inducted thru the lower unit by the water pump impeller and is forced upward thru the entire engine head and is eventually discharged thru the exhaust system. The tell tale stream is only a small part of the cooling water discharged.

    Dyneema Anchor Rode

I had a similar set up on my last boat, 8 plait rode 1/4" HS chain running thru a Lewmar ProFish 700. I really liked that set up a lot. I now have the Lewmar 700 but not pro fish. I'm not sure the dyneema will work with these windlasses. I believe it is used with drum roller type windlass...

    Outboard Tell Tale Stream

This might be a great time to check your thermostats as well as clearing the telltale tube. You'll get an idea of how much salt deposits built up inside the head. You may also want to run some Saltaway thru the engine after being in saltwater.

A big thank you to Colleen and Gary (Daybreak) for all the work they put into organizing this years CBGT Friday Harbor. Your efforts are much appreciated. I enjoyed the re-accounting of of Devons solo adventure on C-Ration to Alaska from Friday Harbor. That had to have been an exciting trip...

What's your favorite fish for the table ?

Here in the PNW we are blessed with a variety of excellent seafood choices all of which could be caught and cooked the same day. Locally I like Ling Cod baked or seared in cast iron skillet with various spices. Spot shrimp are excellent as well as fresh caught Dungeness crab cooked and eaten...
