Lower Unit - 1998 Honda BF40 - Works Great, crack developing in housing

I pretty much agree with Salmon Fisher. I'm afraid that the crack must be really close to the seal surface area and will be leaking seawater into the gear case. Which begs the question as to "What caused the crack"? Someone may want to harvest the parts even tho there isn't much there. I...

    Solar Generators

We presently use a 100 AH liFepo4 battery to run our portable ICECO freezer. The battery is charged by a Honda eu2000i generator when at the dock (if no electricity available) or plugged in to boat 12V when underway. It seems to me that it used a lot of battery overnight when keeping thing...

    Member Location

Yes, interesting that this topic just came up, as I was just trying to find the location of a member and had no luck. One used to be able to go to the profile of an individual and find their home town etc. I'm hoping that this feature will return. Still feeling my way around this new format...

    Cockpit Step

Thank you for that. I would think that there might be a market for your step design. Probably wouldn't take long to assemble is you had a pattern and built 5 or 6 units at a time and sell them to needy Cdory owners. Again, nice job.

    Cockpit Step

Very nice workmanship and practical design. How thick is the plywood? Did you use two sheets on the bottom step? Are those dowl pins and glued together? Could you provide dimensions if someone were interested? Thanks.

    Cockpit Step

My first thoughts were; Thats a great idea, and Those corners need to be rounded out a bit. Maybe take a quarter and trace out the radius on those corners and cut them accordingly then round the sharp edges off. I agree with Tom, it may not be for everybody but if you are agile enough then...

    Winterizing

Another proven method is to put a sheet of bounce fabric softener on any possible entry hole. I've been using this method for years in the 5th wheel trailer. For some reason mice do not like the smell of bounce and will not go near it. Haven't had a mouse in the trailer for many years since I...

    Iceco frig or other options

We've got a 20 quart version. We go out usually for about 2 weeks at a time. When out on anchor I charge the 100ah Lipo4 battery using a honda EU 2000i generator . We use the cooler as a freezer for shrimp and salmon that is vacuum sealed. I works pretty well but it does uses a lot of...

    Stain Removal and grease removal

The best product I've come across for removing fender dirt, grime, and anything a dock can throw at it is Starbrite RIB and INFLATABLE cleaner and UV protectant. Spray it on, let it sit for 30 seconds or so and wipe it off. It works amazingly well. Good luck

    Make it shine.

Thanks for posting the cleaner comparison video. I had heard that toilet bowl cleaner works for removing stains on a hull but have never actually seen the results. The video pretty much seals the deal for Lysol and at about 25% of the cost of everything else out there 'I"M IN".

West Coast of Vancouver Island by trailer

Looking in the Raven photo album I only noticed 3 pictures of the the 2025 trip. I was wondering how you transitioned from Nootka Sound to Esperanza Sound. I once stayed with a friend at his condo in Tahsis and we fished in and outside of Esperanza Sound. The trip from Tahsis to the mouth...

    Fuel Separation

Donald, I don't think you'll have to remove the tanks. That fuel transfer pump will almost suck it dry. It's a lot like a bilge pump whereas the spinning impeller is right at the end of the run of the tubing its mounted on. Just lower it into the tank like you would a siphon hose, hit the on...

    Fuel Separation

Donald wrote: "Schuster, If I am on top of it it is because of this group. Thanks for the testimonial. Did you remove your tanks to empty them?' My tank is a 100 gal tank under the cockpit floor , so no I did not have to remove it. I entered the tank via the fuel sending unit. Remove three...

    Fuel Separation

When I purchased my boat in 2021 it had been sitting for a couple of years. It had the Honda BF150 engine and was the fuel injected model. One of the problems that I immediately encountered was bad fuel, about 50 gallons of it. It apparently was a not treated. It caused the high pressure...

    Charging issues

Donald, glad to see that you're getting things figured out electrically on your boat. Part of the fun of new boat ownership is figuring out what you have while in the process of enjoying yourself. As far as the water intrusion issue goes ----- anyone who has owned a trailer boat for any amount...

    Guest Chargers

Jay, thanks for your incite. I tend to agree with your logic on replacement. Mine has been good for many years and definitely has done the job. I tend to agree at this point not to change things up too much and stick with what has worked for years.

    Guest Chargers

Thanks Colby for the reply. I read the same manual and replaced both the house batteries this spring and last year replaced the starting battery. So I'll rule out the batteries and look at the charger. I've quit using it for now as the engine has been quite good at charging. I'll have to do...

    Guest Chargers

Just curious, are the Guest chargers not considered good replacement chargers when the originally installed chargers go bad? I still have the original guest charger in my boat and its a 2007 model. I may be having a problem with mine as both green lights are on as well a a red light that never...

    Best windless for 8 plaite

We used the Lewmar 700 horizontal windlass with the 8 plait on my last boat without any problems. I ordered the chain and rode from Lewmar when I purchased the windlass. they seem to be made for each other. I have not had the need to adjust anything but you may want to contact Lewmar and see...

    What to get?

I would have to agree with Bob on this one. I have a 25' cruiser and am currently running a 22 lb delta behind 60 feet of 1/4" high test chain and sleep well at night. if I were in the market to upgrade my anchor I would opt for the Mantus anchor. The Mantus is a scoop style as opposed to the...
