Consider Evinrude e-tecs take most of the maintenance costs out of the equasion. I'm leaning towards twin e-tecs on a 22 cruiser. Probably 50 's :D

I think the 303 protectant is reccomended as a U.V. light protectant.(sun tan lotion for vinyl and fabrics) not a waterproofing treatment.

What happened to the engine you had to replace?

Does the aft helm include throttle control? I don't see it it the photos.

My Sierra catalog says the 18-7986-1 is a kit containing one of 18-7775 bracket and one of 18-7945 filter. You can replace that filter with Racor kit #B32013 which contains one of filter number S3213 and one of Plastic see-thru reusable bowl for outboard engine use only. I hope this helps.

If you get the number off the Sierra filter I can tell you the part number for the Racor Filter & bowl assy. to replace it.

They both make many different filters and they are definately not all interchangeable.

We sell both brands here. If you give me some part numbers I should be able to tell you if they are interchangeable.

I'm suprised by the low popularity of the Evinrude E-Tech. Has there been problems with them or are people still a little scared of the reasonably new technology?

I believe the Optima batteries are actually a gel cell battery not a dry cell. They are still a lead acid battery. The acid is in a gel form vs. liquid. Similar CCA batteries will weigh approximatly the same gel or liquid acid. :smiled

Smitty The key is regular testing of the internal condition of your batteries which as far as I know can only be accomplished by this type of tester. Your batteries would have failed this type of a test.
