Miles per gallon while towing 22' C-Dory

I towed my 22 Classic with an old single axle trailer from Wyoming to Houston and got about 14 MPG with my Jeep Cherokee. Of course it was about 6500 feet downhill! I went mostly about 60 MPH. Now I've got a dual axle trailer. I haven't checked the mileage but it feels like it's a bit less...

Range of C-Dory at Hull Speed

Jim, The Honda prop tables for a 50 on a 22 cruiser show 13.3 MPG at 4 MPH at 1500 RPM, and 7.5 MPG at 6 MPH at 2000 RPM. Yikes, quite a drop! Phil Bolger wrote somewhere that 6 is the magical psychological number to make you think you're actually getting somwhere so the C-Dory seems likely a...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I was puttering up the Clear Channel in my Classic returning from a morning cruise on Galveston Bay and I passed a TomCat coming down from Clear Lake. First other C-Dory I've seen in the Galveston Bay area. Hope they were having fun, I sure was! Mike

    Prop Pitch for BF90 on a 19angler

Philip, Based on the Honda prop tests your WOT speed sounds about right. It sounds to me like your tach isn't reading correctly. Honda rates your motor at 90 HP@ 5500 RPM so I don't see much point in selecting a prop that will let the motor turn 6000 RPM unless you need a smaller prop for...

    Prop Pitch for BF90 on a 19angler

Philip, Another resource is the Honda Website. There's a 22 test with a 90 turning a 13 1/4 X 17 X 3 that shows 32.9 MPH at 5400 RPM WOT. There's another test with a 13 1/4 X 18 X 3 that shows 28.5 MPH at 5100 RPM WOT, so bigger is definitely not better. It seems to me that your prop should...

50 HP Honda on 22Ft classic

What struck me about the prop tests with the 50 and the 75 was that once on a plane the mileage was pretty much the same for the same speeds, so it takes a certain amount of power to go a certain speed and the bigger motor only lets one go faster. So if you don't need to go 25 MPH or whatever a...

50 HP Honda on 22Ft classic

OK so when you go to my bad link, select Fiberglass-Monohull-50 and hit "Find Prop Tests" and you should see the link to the C-Dory 50 test. If you switch to 75 you'll see the link to the C-dory 75 test. Sorry for the confusion. Mike

50 HP Honda on 22Ft classic

Years ago when I was agonizing over power options for my Classic I ran across some test data for the Honda 50 (and the Honda 75). I think it was on the C-Dory site and I think it was also on the Honda site. I can't find it on the C-dory site. It is on the Honda site at the cut and paste link...

    Lake Erie Brats??

Folks, Thanks for all the great information! It sounds like an interesting area, maybe to trailer to a few different spots and give it a try. I landed in Cleveland the other day and the lake looked rather, uh, challenging as I drove by on 90. Thanks again for your help. Mike

    Lake Erie Brats??

Hey gang, I was in northwestern Pennsylvania visiting some relatives and I was wondering if we have any Lake Erie Brats? The only C-Dory boating I know of on the lake is that part of Riverhorse where William Least Heat Moon thinks his boat might come apart on the run from Buffalo to Dunkirk (I...

    Lazy Man's Carb Cleaning

Sea Foam-maybe it works. I'd kept my boat in the back yard for most of the winter and I ran my Honda 75 on muffs for about 20 minutes every three weeks or so to keep the battery charged and to get some fresh gas through it. Last month I hauled the boat down to the marina and put in the water...

    Should I get a 2 or 4 stroke kicker??

Hi Phil, Here are my thoughts. I have a Honda 75 and a Honda 8 kicker. Since they both have alternators they can both charge batteries, although the 8 does so pretty slowly. In a dead battery situation, I'd much rather rope start an 8 and bank the electrons to start the 75. Since they both...

Some questions about buying a used c-dory.

Gee Dave, I agree with all of the posts. I've got an old Classic and they are about as simple and reliable as an ax. You can see everything in the boat. The big flat cockpit decreases martini spills. They are a bit lighter to tow (but not much), if that's an issue. You can geek them up to...

    Bending Stainless Tubing

There's a guy in my marina, Buddy, who's made no end of SS doo-dads for his huge Hatteras MY. He fills the tubing with sand, fits a clamp of his own construction on one end and uses two very closely spaced utility poles at the marina as a vise. He hooks up the clamped end to his diesel pickup...

    Moldy window seals

Jim, Acetone or brush cleaner will work too. Just be sure and wear the proper personal protective equipment-nitrile gloves, solvent mask, eye protection, etc. Mike

    Removing Krytonite Lock

Success!! Gee is it just me or are there lots of Mikes out there (sorry Joe). I don't have a Dremel so I had to go to plan B. Tried whacking it with the key turned and no luck. So I went at it with carbide hacksaw blade. It was a spirited energetic fight, but I finally won. When I'd cut...

    Removing Krytonite Lock

Hi folks, About three years ago I bought a Kryptonite padlock to secure my kicker on my old OMC bracket. It was a replacement for an old Masterlock that was getting pretty rusty. This past weekend I was going to remove the motor to refinish the plywood motor pad on the bracket. The key would...

    Not Your Average Motor Questions

Barefoot, Not such an odd thought! I installed a Honda 75 and a Honda 8 on my 22 Classic back in 2001. At the time I agonized between the Honda 75 and the Honda 50 for the main motor. I'm not a speed demon and I may have made a mistake. The 50 is a lot lighter than the 75/90 and would have...

    c-22 Classic Headroom?

Waternut, I'm 6' 3'' too, or I was the last time I got measured which was a while ago, and I've got an 84 Classic. There's not enough headroom for us longshanks in the old Classics, but I've adjusted over the years and rarely bang my head. It's a quandary like so many things in life. If the...

    Tachometer registering too high

Otter, I've occasionally had the same problem with my Honda 75, usually in the 1000-2000 RPM range which is at pretty slow speeds. It jumps up to like 2800 RPM, and I know I'm not going that fast! So far a bit of, uh, percussive maintenance has solved the problem. I thwack the tach with my...
