Refinish cabin door, and install wiper

I have an '86 Angler with a similar door. It was recommended that I use Cetol, which I did. The Cetol is the original browny/orange formula. It has held up very well and I used it on the cabin handrails too. It's your call to how far you want to go and what level of finish. I know that some...

    Achoring With Double Anchors

I am certain it's a "home made" variety as well. I can't top hooking into a battleship chain. I have a short piece of chain from the Pretoria that went down off Outer Island. The diameter of the metal in links is 1 5/8" with each link weighing about 14 pounds. Just don't tell us you lifted any...

    Achoring With Double Anchors

I know the technique of using two anchors is well established, however I was unfortunately introduced to another unbidden and unwelcome variation of using double anchors. I set my anchor in 18' of water (Rocna 6kg, 25' 1/4 chain, 180" 1/2" 8 plait line [hat tip to Bob on the selection of...

    Adding a burner and sink

Good tip about lubricating the stem of the butane canister. This sounds like worthy story. My stove is only two years old with about 40-50 lights so far.

    Adding a burner and sink

We have a small butane burner that size and it works great. One drawback is that it doesn't want to light when the cabin temp is below 40 degrees. Warming the butane canister in your shirt helps somewhat but ............I'd suggest a duel fuel stove that works on propane and butane for the...

Questions about '82 22ft CDory with transom-area damage

We got an '86 Angler a few years ago and saw some unplugged holes in the splash well that caused the glass to bulge on the starboard side of the well. Because of this issue negotiated a price of $10k. Finally ready to tackle replacing the splash well, even knowing what we might, find the pics...

How much chain can a CD 25 carry comfortably

(I had two spring lines--one from each side of the boat to take the load off the primary rode, and avoid chafe.) The problem is that one can never know when that gust of wind is going to come along, and cause the anchor to drag. I'd be interested to get the details of how these spring lines...

    Foolish Mistakes 101

My first mate (and only mate) were at the Rocky Island dock in the Apostle Islands in our 22 ft. sailboat. The dock has some rough cribs that are not friendly to small boats when they get up close and personal. I had deployed a small folding grapnel anchor abeam to keep us just off the dock...

    Cruising at anchor

I just came across this description of of forces applied in mooring for the Jordan Series Drogue. http://www.jordanseriesdrogue.com/D_14.htm I found most interesting the diagrams explaining those forces. While it is mostly concerned with sailing vessels, the principles are still the same. I'm...
