Single Handing Safety Tips and Considerations

Yep, after 10 years of not drinking, my day still improves, it just starts from a much better place. Of course the level of drama has slipped a little. ;)

Single Handing Safety Tips and Considerations

Rob, I am already one up on that, I would look BEFORE going in ;) And yes, a boat hook would be at the ready

Single Handing Safety Tips and Considerations

OK, I see. I installed and used mid-ship cleats on all my sailboats, and find them very useful for singlehanded docking. I just have to get use to using the motor in conjunction with them. Thanks, Tim

Single Handing Safety Tips and Considerations

Thanks Rob. And just to clarify, when you say Are you doing the looping from the helm? I have put in some time using springs to position the boat both coming and going, but always with the help of a mate.

Single Handing Safety Tips and Considerations

Thanks Colby, I was wondering about that concept And whether a midship cleated dock line could be tossed from the window.

Single Handing Safety Tips and Considerations

This is a great discussion, and I have picked up some tips from it. I have single-handed sailboats a lot, but typically from the cockpit. This new to me C25 has presented a new issue of getting from the helm to the dock. Though not necessarily a safety issue and therefore perhaps deserving a...

    Brake rebuild on King tandem

Final photos and comments; I have been having to work around the drenching we have been getting, but I am not complaining. System all buttoned up ready to be bled. The underside routing of the brake lines; And the protection I put over the main line on the tongue; I have used this...

    Light Paintings of Paddle Motion

I have used it in flatwater freestyle paddling exercises such as in this video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ofq_nl366VM]Flatwater It is definitely something that gets a lot "stealthier" with practice.

    Light Paintings of Paddle Motion

Well, I am no expert though I did teach ACA canoeing and kayaking for a number of years and did an awful lot of whitewater and sea kayaking, and I learned that the more efficient higher stroke done properly will be less fatiguing in the long run because you will be using larger and stronger back...

    Proper C-Dory Toolbox

Yes, when cruising having back-ups for the critical parts is as important (or more so) as the tools to install them.

    Brake rebuild on King tandem

I am not too worried about the lines from the calipers, but intend on finding some kind of sheathing for line along the tongue.

    Brake rebuild on King tandem

Some more photos Here is where the brakeline enters the frame in front, it does leave the line exposed on the tongue, but I will fasten it alongside the channel. As was the case with Sunbeam's, the hole for the metal line was too close to make a reasonable bend. The line exits the frame...

    Brake rebuild on King tandem

Boris the brakesets that came on the trailer were Tie-downs. My visual inspection told me that it was going to be a lot easier and safer in the long run to replace the whole thing. I could assume the spindle was good but I would probably replace bearings anyway so starting with all new made...

    Brake rebuild on King tandem

I meant to get a photo of where it went in and out of the frame, it has been raining all day today, hopefully tomorrow I will.

    Brake rebuild on King tandem

I was going to wait until the project was finished to make a post about it, but the rain today has driven me in so I will make a start on it. After bringing “Wild Blue” down from the PNW it was clear that the brakes were going to need work. In looking them over I decided the easiest thing would...
