BRAT GATHERING? CANAL BOAT IN EUROPE SUMMER 2013

El, Bill, You might try http://www.locaboat.com/en/12/canal-du- ... QgodCEoAvQ for the Toulouse/Bordeaux region of France. I have never chartered there but it is an area I know very well. The city of Carcassone is worth the visit all on it's own. For the UK. My brother has friends who have...

    Lets cruise loch ness

The "Irish Rover" actually spent about 2 years in EU. They stored it in Holland for the winter and last I heard it was sold back in the states. Bob is right, most boats in the UK are much lower powered than we are used to mainly due to the price of Gas. I sure as heck could not afford to run...

    Lets cruise loch ness

The Rf 246 I referred to above was called "Irish Rover". Unfortunately the only website I can now find referring to the journey is now inactive. For the "narrow boats" on the UK canal system there are numerous agencies but you can get an idea from http://www.ukboathire.com/ Could be quite a...

    Lets cruise loch ness

Somewhere on the RF 246 website is the story of s couple who did this with their Rosborogh. Not Loch Ness but the French and German canal system. I know you Tom, this is all just a cunning plan to troll for "Nessy" :-) If you do go don't drink the local "water". Tastes just like Scotch. You...

    Just sayin'

A certain secret recipe for Momma's Hawaiin chicken will not go forgotten either :-) Don't worry, "Brat" is so much a part of our lives that we will turn up again and will always "lurk" on here. Meanwhile the deed is done http://www.eqmarine.com/2008_Rosborough_RF-246.html M

    eLoran

Sextants and the know-how to use them are great but in the Pacific North Wet, "Celestial Navigation" is often more like "Divine Guidance". Also interesting is that some smart phones now also use the Glonass system as well as GPS. NOthing like hedging your bets :-) M

Charlie, wasn't the decision to phase out Loran C based on unwillingness to upgrade to E Loran ($$$) ?? I seem to remember some discussion on here and other articles about it. That is why I found it amusing that EU decided to go the other way (again) When we lived on "your" coast we used...

Good deal on Morad VHF antenna

Tom, I have 2 VHF and 1 AIS antenna from Morad and cannot fault their performance. My only critique would be the metal adaptor which goes between the antenna and the rail mount. Two of mine have blistering and flaking of the powder coating which admittedly can be simply resolved by sanding and...

    Just sayin'

Bob, I know what you mean. We loved our CD22 but were just a bit too old and arthritic to fold up nicely in it :-) The loss of that was offset by the purchase of the RF246 which really had everything we needed. However, we agreed that our medium range criusing plans had been fulfilled and our...

    Just sayin'

The "Admirable" and I have decided to spend the next year or so concentrating on covering all the land based bucket list items that we have missed which will mean that there is one seriously underused boat sitting around doing nothing. Not wishing to break the rules or abuse the priviledges of...

    Raymarine Autopilot

And keep your cell phone away from it!!!. You can find out just how naughty or nice your phone is by putting it in various positions while you are at the dock. Controlling visitors, kids etc use and positioning of phones requires that you get a good herding dog :-) M
