Hi Bob, Roger, Rob, tsturn and anchorout: THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR EXCELLENT ADVICE AND PERSPECTIVES! If I do this—all, or nearly all of--the precautions (e.g., equipment) you suggested would be implemented! Three times I’ve had “Dori Den” off shore about 20 miles: Once in 5-7ft seas with...

Hi Everyone: I am seriously considering heading off-shore (70 miles) in C-Dory 25 ("Dori Den") - from Ocean City MD to Baltimore Canyon (Edge of Continental Shelf) – best fishing there, and absolutely beautiful water, by all accounts. Dori Den has twin 90s, radio reception to 20 miles, EPIRB...

C-Dory25 in 5-7ft Seas (~10ft when stacked) My 1st SeaTrial

Hi Art, I am very sorry to hear that spinal issues have diminished your time on Sea Angel! However, as you point out, just doing anything around or about our boats is enjoyable. Considering that C-Dorys are highly sought after, I have no doubt you will find many who would be very happy to...

Hi Everyone, I hope you will please forgive my intrusion, but I just want to say hi to Dick and Suzanne of Sea Quest :-) Last Sunday, my wife and I were heading back to PA, from Williamsburg, VA, by way of the Delmarva Peninsula. Just after entering Maryland (i.e., heading north on Rt13), we...

6-8 hours to kill tomorrow between Daytona and Orlando

Hi Roger, Sorry that I'm only seeing your post now. I grew up in Daytona and might have been of help, but it looks like you got some excellent suggestions and saw some great stuff. I love St. Augustine and climbed half way up the east wall of the fort when I was a boy. You may have seen an...

Hi Captain Matt and Foggy, You are both absolutely right! Captain Matt- Thank you for your positive spin. As you said, it was an excellent teaching experience that I will not opt for again. I should have sat tight, but had the worst case of “get-home-itus” (despite impending storms and...

Most Challenging Waves I Ever Encountered

Very cool, Foggy! Since I could see which direction the storm was coming from (i.e., west, south-west), probably could have employed your technique, in reverse, to predict wind direction when it hit. If pointing to center with left hand, out to side and slightly back, would have hit me in the...

Most Challenging Waves I Ever Encountered

D.D., Forgot to mention that I like your thinking about staying relatively close to shore in 30ft-ish. Honestly, at no time did the wind seem in the 15-20 range predicted; it seemed lower and closer to the buoy estimates. Thanks again, Gerry "Dori Den"
