    gelcoat crack in new boat

We just returned from our second trip on our 2007 22' cruiser and noticed that there is a 4 in long crack near the intersection of the cockpit and cabin. We have logged about 6 hours in Turnstone in mild seas. I am new to fiberglass boats; how concerned should I be about this? Any input would...

    fuel water separators

Well, after spending an hour sweating and cursing, I could not remove the filter from the filter base. What is the deal with these things? They must be assembled in zoos by angry gorillas. I have tried the regular oil filter remove, but all that is doing is denting the filter. Any other ideas...

advice on adding house battery and switch

I would like to add a house battery and I am confused about the differences between switches that isolate batteries 1 and 2 separately and have a 1+2 setting and those that isolate battery 1 and have a "combined" setting (as shown in the link below)...

source of KLEAN HEAT in Anchorage, AK

You were right about just making the drive to HD. There was a display of 50 gallon jugs of KLEAN HEAT a few feet away from the customer service person who I spoke with on the phone. Jim

source of KLEAN HEAT in Anchorage, AK

I have called Home Depot, ACE, and AMDS with no luck. The closest thing I have found is KLEANSTRIP K1 kerosene, but it sounds like KLEAN HEAT is the way to go. Thanks, Jim

    Advice on anchor line diameter

Hi Jay- The plan is to have 300' forward, most likely in a tub on deck. The remainder will be for a danforth storm anchor. Also, not sure whether you have been boating in the Sound much, but I just bought A Cruising Guide to PWS and it is full of great information; I highly recommend it...

    Advice on anchor line diameter

Jay, FYI, I bought my anchor set up at Arctic Wire and Rope on Arctic. I thought their prices for the 16.5 psedu-Bruce ($70) and the 600' of 1/2 ($175) were reasonable - plus, it is nice to support a local business. To all, I used an eye splice through the last link of chain (1/4") following...

    Advice on anchor line diameter

Thanks to everyone for their input. I went ahead and bought 600 feet of 1/2" 3-strand and a 16.5 lb Bruce Lee (Chinese version) anchor. I may end up buying a windlass, but I'll pull the hook by hand for awhile. After a frustrating hour in front of the computer figuring out how to make a chain...

repairing nicks and dings in gelcoat

That is too bad that C-Dory won't ship HAZMAT. Next time I make it down to Seattle, I will stop by the C-Dory factory to pick up some gelcoat. A demonstration of gelcoat repair at the boat show in Seattle sounds like a great idea to me and would be well worth the price of a plane ticket...

repairing nicks and dings in gelcoat

Thanks Peter. I am wondering whether anyone has used the Spectrum Color patch kits. Also, wondering whether I can even repair the many chips without making the situation worse. Jim

    Advice on anchor line diameter

That's right Jay. I was thinking 5/8 as it will be easier to pull than smaller diameter. You say 500' of 3/8" fits in your locker? BTW, I just checked out a few of your photos from AK - looked like you had a great trip. I just towed my c-dory from Haines to Anchorage and man do I wish I had...

    Advice on anchor line diameter

I need to purchase anchor and line. I need 300' plus 30-50' 1/4" chain. Since I don't have a windlass, I would like at least 5/8" line. What is the largest diameter 300' line that will fit into the factory anchor box? Thanks, Jim
