The Mighty Chack Chack is on her last leg

We are off tomorrow to rejoin Chack Chack where she has been stored inside their spar shed after we completed the trip from Jeckyl Island, GA to Chesapeake, VA. This trip will take us up the Chesapeake Bay, through the C&D canal, down Delaware Bay, up the New Jersey coast and to New York...

    boat polish help

Tom just a guess but I bet its poly glo which is similar to an acrylic floor wax you can put on fiberglass. It leaves a thick coating that yellows over time and is a bear to get off. Look at the polyglo web site, they sell a remover, or you might try an acrylic floor wax remover. Eric

    7000 btu Dog House AC

We bought the Frigidaire 5,000 BTU Mini Window Air Conditioner with Rotary Controls FRA052XT7 from Wal Mart. com and had it delivered to Jekyl Island last year when we were heading up the coast in July. It worked great, fits in the front window with some floaties stuffed around it and stores in...

    tire advice needed

You could look on The Hull Truth and search trailer tires. There is a lot of discussion there about each brand available and peoples experiences with them. The Maxxis tires that Miss Emily is using seem to be well regarded. Eric

    Freeze damage

On our loop trip our Chack Chack spent the first winter at Sheplers in Mackinaw City, Michigan, indoors but no heated storage. We diconnected the water heater and emptied it by forcing compressed air in the inlet line. We ran RV antifreezed through the entire water system and all the pumps...

    Boat survey 25' C-Dory

I did Hanks modification on my 2006 CD 2006, worked the gaskets over etc. and the cockpit hatches are still a sieve. The only way you will keep the bilge dry is to keep the cockpit covered, its just a poor design, but it is my one and only gripe about an otherwise wonderful boat. Eric

Best Time To Drive up the California Coast

Capn Jack - you haven't even been on a curvy road till you have been out the Lost Coast Loop - I think its 100 miles of curves to make 20 miles up the coast, but the Redwood Groves are unforgetable and the scenery majestic. Eric

Best Time To Drive up the California Coast

October is a beautiful time to drive up the coast from San Francisco. The weather will be warm, no fog, and no rain. Go over the Golden Gate Bridge and then take Highway 1. Go out the Lost Coast loop on your way up to Eureka, and spend some time on the Southern Oregon coast in Brookings. Eric

Winter storage re: water in motor

Its probably best to change the oil in the outboards lower units before storing in freezing conditions, just on the outside chance there has been water intrusion. Eric

    Laptop Table or Mount

Not elegant but we just use the old laptop in the V-Berth approach. If its choppy put a couple of pillows behind it. It does solve another problem that the ram mounts or a solid mount will not which is decreasing shock to the computer. I'm not sure your HDD is going to like the solid mount...

    Loose steering wheel

I'm not quite sure its this simple, but - loosen the set screw holding the plastic cover on your wheel, and take the cover off. There is a nut that you can tighten and that may just solve your problem. Hope its that easy for you! Eric

New Business Idea for Your C-Dory!

While we were anchored in the lagoon at Tahaa, a French guy who owned a pension on one of the motus would come by in the morning on his powerboat with fresh baked bread and crouisants, and freshly made juice - now that was good! Eric

    Earl

Tom, I have to say that one of the riskiest things you do every day is jump in your car and go merrily driving off. Maybe you are on you way to Safeway and whammo - off to the netherworld. If people really cared they would avoid cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, lets not be overweight and...

Anybody Have an Origo Flush Mount Alcohol Stove for Sale?

Pat, we don't have a wallas stove, but do love our Origo alcohol stove. Its a completely simple no mess, no fuss always works piece of equipment. On the loop as we are doing it we have always been able to buy alcohol at a hardware store or the paint section at Walmart. It is a little smelly...

    Northern Michigan Inland Waterway

We started our trip down Lake Michigan to Chicago from Indian River Marina last year. I think the trip down the Inland waterway from Indian River to Cheboygan was interesting, and Cheboygan itself is a nice stop. Eric
