cruising with only one twin in the water

If substantial savings is a concern, the 90 + kicker is the better overall plan. Total cost of ownership for twins is higher and if you spend a lot of time trolling (or cruising at displacement speeds), it's better to put those hours on the less expensive kicker.

Please give me some sound advise

If you plan on regularly cruising at 25-26mph in a 25' Cruiser in the area around Whidbey, you may be disappointed as there are not too many days when one can comfortably go 25-26mph in a C-Dory. 25-26 cruising will be days when there is very little chop. That said, the Honda 135 and Honda...

Suggestions for mutlifunction gps/radar 2k budget

$2k for a radar AND a display of "decent size" and a radar arch or post on which to place the radar is a shy of the $'s needed. The radar unit's alone go for around $1200-$2000 for basic (but good) recreational units. The mount will be around $200 for a simple mount, $700-2000 for a stainless...

How long is Tomcat 255 on trailer?

It depends a bit on the trailer but on my FloatOn trailer with the engines down, its about 39' from prop to the front of the receiver on the trailer.

    Why not twin kickers?

A couple of comments. Avidmagnum's boat is a 22, you're getting a 25. The 25 will handle a bit differently than the 22 due to the increased size and mass, it will get blown around a bit less. Many have responded as if you were experiencing prop walk but from your post, it would appear that...

    Repowering C-Voyager

As you can see from Dave's response, he's a straight shooter with the insurance company (and from my personal experience in every other way). His boat is only listed in his profile as a 16' boat because there is no pulldown for a stretched 16 or 18' on the site.

    Repowering C-Voyager

Dave - nice to see you back. The Tohatsu 60 horse 4-stroke weighs 262 lbs in the high thrust model and 243 lbs in the normal version. Those might be options.

    Repowering C-Voyager

Dave's "16" has been heavily modified and is 18' long. See this link for the thread about that. So bottom line, I'm doubt the factory capacity plates are relevant to his situation.

    Emergency/extra trailer lights for a CD22

All - awhile back when I had the 22, I used to launch out of Edmonds. The parking there is pretty tight and often when I returned, someone would have taken out one of my trailer lights (and only one of 4 people left a note). So... I eventually built a spare set of lights. I bought a set from...

    05/18 - 05/20 - 2018 Friday Harbor CBGT

I'd be happy to help out. I'll be shrimping a lot but I should be able to sneak in some time for lessons. Actually, one of the ways I practiced many years ago was to put down a couple of crab pots and then pretend "dock" to the buoys. So that might be an option also - e.g. practice coming up...

    05/18 - 05/20 - 2018 Friday Harbor CBGT

Greg, Joyce and I will arrive there on Friday. At present, the boat is in the water at Blaine Harbor. Our plan is to go up there Thurs evening and stay on the boat for an early Friday AM departure. We'll drop the shrimp pots on the way and head in to FH. See you then.

    Autopilot

To me the primary benefits of having an autopilot on a small boat are: 1) It will track a course far better than I can, especially in the fog. That saves time and fuel. 2) I free up some energy that would be spent steering and allows me to concentrate more on watching the radar and looking out...

    Tomcat combining fuel tanks

A few reasons. One (as I stated in the thread), I want either engine to be able to draw off of either tank in the event one engine fails. Also, with the valve set up as shown, I can run both engines off of one tank if needed (to balance or in the event of a lack of fuel in one tank). Finally...

    Offshore tomcat 255

In WA, there's no limit on albacore (other than the practical limit of how much ice you can carry and how many fish you can properly kill, cool and handle. We don't have live bait out of Neah Bay, so the most we've picked up on the troll is 21 + 1 yellowtail. I'm working on getting the live...

Joe - take a look at this thread. I did this to my boat and the method/rationale is explained in the thread.

    Offshore tomcat 255

Safely and comfortably are two different things. I've had 5 (including me) on my Tomcat fishing tuna offshore out of Neah Bay. That works but I wouldn't take any more. IMO 3-4 is ideal but a lot of that is because I like to get my fish and return to shore to relax. Getting limits for 5 guys...
