Leveling the deck on a 16"

We have a 2006 16' cruiser, and the ceiling, walls, and deck are very bumpy and striated. I don't care about the ceiling and walls, but it would be nice to flatten out the deck by screeding some product in, in at least the aft bilge area for easy cleaning, but without raising the height of the...

    Handheld VHFs with GPS/DSC

thanks everyone. We have DSC on our current handheld, but it doesn't have an internal GPS like the ones I mentioned. I think that's kind of a no brainer feature, so we'll probably be going with the Standard Horizon, although they seem to be out of stock everywhere, of course :)

    Handheld VHFs with GPS/DSC

I was wondering if anyone has any strong opinions about the latest crop of handhelds with integrated GPS/DSC - I'm looking at the Cobra HH600, the Uniden MHS335BT, the Icom M94D, and the Standard Horizons HX890. They're all about $200, except the Icom, which is $100 more, probably for the AIS...

    Cover for 16' cruiser

thataway, yes, we have some 303, we just have to wait for one of the five days per year that we get to 70 degrees to apply it lol Happy Holidays!

    Cover for 16' cruiser

I was totally wrong (it won't be the last time) about my previous opinion that a tarp would be better rain protection than the old, dirty, ten-year old Angola canvas cover. Within a day of using the tarp, there was so much condensation in the boat it was if it wasn't even there. So we put half...

    Sliding bimini for 16' cruiser?

kcohen4, thanks for the links :) Yes, the Sureshade is a nice design we've looked at, but with our constantly damp weather, a roll up piece of canvas is probably not going to work. And hopefully we can make something less expensive. I'll let you know what we come up with, it'll probably be a...

    Sliding bimini for 16' cruiser?

We're starting to design a bimini type canvas (maybe some other material) deck cover for our 16' cruiser that doesn't have poles, but sits on top of the roof, and slides out over the deck for shade, but slides back for fishing (and ideally when slid out over the deck, can also be slanted down to...

    Elco

robhwa, just watched that video this morning, one of the better videos, I thought. Yes, we're probably a no on the Hangkei, and other "regular" electrics, just because we don't have the expertise right now to start buying lithium - we just have two deep cycles now for our main. We'll probably...

    Elco

ssobol, yes, have thought of that too, and it's still under consideration. Watched a very short video of two identical dinghys racing a short bit, one with a torqeedo (supposed 5hp) and one with a Honda 2.3hp gas, and they were neck and neck :) The other obvious option is just a gas 6hp -...

    Elco

Marco, yeah, I know, and the Elco is 65 pounds itself. With regard to the Hangkai, it surprises me that we didn't run across it in our electric search, I think we've watched 200 hours of videos :) Might be an interesting introduction to electric, if you just assume going in that it may not...

    Acoustics

Even here the cost of shipping from Amazon costs almost as much as the product, and the product doesn't weigh very much. I can't really find any definitive information on the benefits of ceramic vs glass balloons, or I would try glass. Today I asked a question on Amazon about the Hy-Tech...

    Acoustics

C-Wolfe - you tried anything like this yet? I've been doing a bit of research, would like to try something like this too, and if it works for condensation, I have a dripping metal carport that could use some too :)

    Elco

Anyone have or used a 5HP Elco electric as a kicker on a small (16') Dory?

    Torqeedo 1003 as Kicker/dinghy motor

ssobol, because we don't intend to go farther out from the harbor than a mile, although I guess if the main quit we could drift quite a bit :) And the thought with electric was that it had a dedicated battery, easy to charge. But we've done more research today, and we're kind of off on a...

    Cover for 16' cruiser

thanks, dotnmarty, yes, I think we'll get or make a slantback. Nor sure what you mean by a drop down?

Filling holes in the deck in the bilge area

thanks, Thataway, we have two six gallong tanks, just trying to lighten the load. We won't be going more than 5 or 6 miles a day out of harbor per day. Finding a 3 gal tank with a decent review online is a different matter apparently with the new gas tanks. There's always the 6 gal tanks :)

    Torqeedo 1003 as Kicker/dinghy motor

croakz, how are you liking that epropulsion motor?? We're thinking of it (or some electric) for our 16' cruiser, just to get us home and maybe going up some rivers. When I say "get us home", I'm talking about from a mile out in the ocean to harbor. Like what I see so far just from YouTube...

Filling holes in the deck in the bilge area

thataway, we're thinking of two 3-gal tanks, one on each side, then moving the battery to the port seatbox (we're not going on long hauls, and like the idea of just moving and changing them out to keep fuel fresh), and yes, we would want to lay down some sort of lifters slanted toward the center...

    Cover for 16' cruiser

We don't overnight in ours, but it would be nice to control the condensation, working on it :) I don't know why the interior finish is so very bumpy, I wouldn't want it smooth, it would be too slippery, but it's a very haphazard finish, like someone lost control of a texture sprayer :)
