my oil looks like a milkshake :(

So after my run in with Katie the shark my port engine (honda bf150 2007 700hrs) was running rough. Today I inspected it and found milkshake oil. I found water in the #4 cylinder. all cylinders had spark and injection. The compression readings were: 1-210 2-190 3-195 4-180 To me this points...

meeting the landlord of Santa Rosa Island

After 22 years of diving in California I finally got to meet the ‘landlord’ yesterday. This particular ‘landlord’ was a 12-15’ great white shark named Katie. We figure it was Katie because a tagged shark matching the description of the one we saw has recently been observed in that area. Katie...

    Dive Boat Fire

as usual Bob, you're pretty spot on. These guys are mostly STCW exempt from my understanding. Also the STCW firefighting classes wouldn't really help as these vessels don't have much in the way of fire fighting gear; not turn outs or scba's. Really, subchapter t is pretty meager. With the...

    Dive Boat Fire

The way i interpret the law is that there should be two people on watch; a lookout a/p rule 5 of the COLREGS and roving fire watch a/p 46cfr subchapter t. The normal maritime fireround happens every hour (uscg, navy, merchant marine). This fire consumed the salon in 40 minutes. Sure, the...

    Honda outboard fitting

On this fuel hose replacement, I've never done such. How often does this need to be done? My boat is covered so the hoses have very little UV exposure. I see not cracks or signs of deterioration.

    Honda outboard fitting

on that engine the corrugated tube has become disconnected from the rigging tube that it should fit over. I see no threads of any sort. I'm going to silicone it and use a hose clamp

    Honda outboard fitting

I'm not sure what this thing is called! I'm about to fashion a hose clamp to mine and some silicone. Anyone know the terminology for what this flange the rigging hose fits over? The one on the other engine is wobbly and loose. [/img]https://photos.app.goo.gl/6hAKUR65xbejsaTR6
Transducer cable

I just replaced my speed wheel/temp sensor on my transom. As we have different models I can't give you much advice on how to run the cable. However, when I was removing the old cable from the transom i realized that the through hull hole in the transom that this cable passed through was pre...

    USCG Auxiliary

So the other guy sitting next to me on watch is telling me that the USCG Auxiliary guys get all their gas paid for by the USCG. Does anyone know anything about this? I read through their manual and it basically says that all expense on your own watercraft while engaged in USCG Auxiliary ops...
