Catalina Island: day dream inducing footage

That is some awesome footage, beautiful place. Are those public moorings?

Formula is just down the road from me. Same place they build the giant RVs.

Ranger moving strong into the outboard market

Thanks James TXSD. I read this on Tugnuts (at least twice), read it here and will keep reading to be sure it sinks in. Jake

    Slow cruise problems?

Thanks and forgot to mention, I was thinking in terns of a 150hp engine on say a 25 cruiser.

    Slow cruise problems?

General question, are you risking potential damage or shortened life span of an outboard engine if you cruise at say 6 knots most of the time?

Ranger moving strong into the outboard market

Have to admit I'm a Ranger/Cutwater fan who also did not want an inboard diesel. Now Ranger has several OB models all of which are hybrid cruise, fish, ski models. Kind of nice. And they have prices on their web site, how innovative :). Speaking of price, any idea what a new well equipped...

    Cooktops

Makes good sense to have a primary with a backup. Gotta remember that thinking for other boating issues. Believe induction with small propane backup would be the right choice for me.

    Cooktops

Thanks for the great responses. Just asking in hopes of a future cruiser. Better half is not in favor of an open flame and I have read of some having problems with Wallas. Thanks for the numbers thataway, I had a feeling a good amount of battery power was required. The one setup I had read...

    Cooktops

Quite a few different types of cooktops are used in boats from my readings. What are your thoughts on using an induction type of cooktop compared to others? They seem to have a lot of advantages to me yet not many boats come with them as standard equipment. Jake

    Great Harbor TT35

George, great to hear from an "insider". I think the TT35 is a great design, wish the style was a bit less of a downsized N37 and more of a modern cruiser. Specs include a 5 degree deadrise on the transom. So not flat but no deep vee. As they say, every boat is a compromise. Seems like a...

    Ranger Tug 23

The Cutwater 24 is $100k since it starts with the sterndrive.

    My first boat show!

I love the Cutwater 24 because it is a go fast outboard. The rest are all inboard diesels except for the top twin OB 30 Sport. All the Jeanneaus are great values. Sounds like you are describing what they now call the NC855 Sport. Sport for fishing, non-sport for cruising models. I like the...

Wiring a New Mastervolt Power Charger

If I might slip in a related question. On a boat with an ACR dual battery type of setup, the installation of the charger would be the same as on a boat without the ACR? You would still use a dual bank charger hooked up directly to the two batteries? Hope this makes sense. Jake

    My hotwater heater

Sorry this is a little off topic but questioned came to me. I don't have a boat with shore power so please understand. If you are running the water heater off of the generator, any reason you can't run all your DC "stuff" at the same time? Thanks Jake

    25 Cruiser questions

Thanks for the info Bob. Interesting about the deck to hull joint, certainly could lead to some long term problems. My interest lies more in a day or overnighter boat so the World Cat has gotten my attention. Agree not the best as a longer term cruiser. Also, in videos I've seen, the...

    Cored Hulls

There must be some good reasons why many companies still use balsa rather than foam (or whatever other choice there is) as a core. Any opinions? Jake

Dual battery necessary, AT what point is better to have 2?

No need to go into details for me but wouldn't this setup eliminate the advantage of having all the electronics connected to a battery separate from the battery used to start the boat? Thanks, Jake
