    Trim tab indicator

I have a chance to buy an indicator for my trim tabs for $50. The local dealer is getting rid of slow moving inventory. It is a bennett product that retails for $236. I have the bennett sport tabs on my hull. Would you do it? For those of you who have them is it informative and useful or...

How small of a wave can capsize my boat?

Yikes who is going to get sideways to breaking waves. Not good at all. I most always run into or with. At all costs avoid going sideways in breaking swells. Larger ships can take some sideways as I saw our cutter take a pretty good one on the side while entering our harbor while towing a...

    following seas

I kinda thought along the same line of light flat bottom boat without much nose rocker could be the issue for the bow steering. I checked the buoy reports to give a better report than seat of pants. When the wind freshened 25 kt gusting to 32 wave height 8.25 feet 5 to 6 sec As you can see...

    following seas

Thanks for all the insight. I probably should have gone in when the wind freshened. Still over 10 miles from port so time wise not much difference for the run out another mile. I was comfortable in it and not worried. As to surfing the swells which I do all the time as I have done most my...

Looking for advice on towing a dock

With a current behind you, I think I would be especially observant of the towed dock to make sure it does not get stuck and cause you to get swamped by the following current. As Matt suggested have a knife ready and someone there to use it if needed.

Costs buying out of state boat?

If you fish commercially in Calif then your vessel is not subject to sales tax. Same rules apply to the commercial fishing gear. We need commercial boats as soon as the harbor gets fixed. What about the cost of bringing it home! I have some friends who have their 22 c dory for sale and are...

    Wet Moorage in the salt

I keep mine on a trailer for day use but having it ready at the dock sure increases your boat usage. Many of the water kept boats are stored on hoists. This along with the house greatly reduces maintenance compared to a wet hull. Its also easier and more effective for flushing motors. Its...

The Lake Shasta norm is more like drink 5 beers and get on the jet ski and go tearing off back to the marina at 45-65 mph to get the next several six packs before the crowd up in the hot tub on top of the houseboat roof runs out of brew. BBuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrppp!!! .......... ''cuse me!!! ...

    Crossing the bar.

The Crescent City entrance is one of the safer ones along the west coast. If it is not safe you most likely will recognize it and choose another day to go fishing. Associated with unsafe is Huge swell over 15 ft with short duration and waves crest outside the channel, high wind usually but...

    Full or Empty - Winterization

Thanks for the heads up on what I do. Full tanks could be empty here by the time you get back to the boat. Not only that but I prefer running fresh fuel. Maybe condensation is a regional thing. But I have not had a condensation problem and my water trap fuel filter seems to be clean. It...
