I used to repack my bearings every year and then had a failure (after 4 years). Now I CHANGE bearings and seals every 2 years and (knock on wood) haven't had a failure in 8 yrs.

I got away with using RV batteries in boats for over 25 years and know many others that have as well. It was not until my battery exploded last year that I found out that this is not a good idea. It seems marine batteries are built to take more vibration than RV batteries and if a plate comes...

Contrary to what others have said here, I would assume the pump saw 10amps. An electric motor that has voltage applied is almost a dead short (limited only by the winding resistance which is not a lot) until it starts to turn and then the counter electromagnetic force reduces the current flow...

I'd suggest stop tracking the number of posts. In my experience, the quality of input improves in forums that don't keep score.

Thanks all, please keep it coming. I should have mentioned that I will be fishing alone a lot and that I do want throttle and steering control in the cockpit. Steering with the tiller arm on this boat seems quite awkward to me.
