    Starlink

Just a few days ago I was talking to C-Brats Jeff & Dianne (formerly Ripple) via a wifi call through their Starlink while they were cruising up in the Broughtons. We talked for over an hour, and a lot about how well the system worked for them while cruising in such a remote place with virtually...

    Viewing a C-Dory 22/23

Thanks for the comment Steve & Gary. I'm very surprised it hasn't sold yet. It's actually ready to go cruising. A new owner just has to load up their personal stuff and go. It has just about all the factory options, including radar arch, windlass, tinted windows and two-tone decking, and a...

    Viewing a C-Dory 22/23

There is a very nice fully equipped Venture 23 on the water right in front of Anthony's in Cap Sante (Anacortes) for sale.

    05/11 - 05/14 - Friday Harbor 2023

It's actually pretty easy to use. In case it isn't obvious, you just use the app to "initialize" your entry after crossing the water border, or where ever you get a cell signal. Then in a few minutes a CBP officer will call you back and ask the normal questions. Only on the very first time using...

    Marinaut Update

Forgive me if this sounds a little "snarky", but how is this any better than either a C-Dory 22 or Venture 23 from a very established and proven boat builder, NMI?

    05/11 - 05/14 - Friday Harbor 2023

Hey Sandy, Similar thing happened to me, but with oranges. Used the CBP Roam and subsequent phone call from customs. Despite my purchasing the oranges in a US store just prior to my trip, they made me dump them overboard before landing. Also one time in answering one of the confusing questions...

    05/11 - 05/14 - Friday Harbor 2023

Hi Dave, good to read from you! Good times last summer playing trivia at Moby's Pub! Yes, that CBSA phone number works regardless of what reporting dock you use. I've used it not only at Bedwell, but also Sidney and Van Isle. It's great since you can wait on hold in the comfort of your own...

    05/11 - 05/14 - Friday Harbor 2023

I crossed the border by boat 5 times last season, all without issues. Of course you will need your passports and you'll also want to check the Canadian Customs website for specifics on what you cannot bring into the country. Bedwell Harbour is my preferred reporting point and according to the...

    05/11 - 05/14 - OFFICIAL 2023 Friday Harbor CBGT

I talked to Michael Millison today, general manager of the NMI factory, and he confirmed that he and his delightful wife Alana will be attending and supporting the event as they did last year, including sponsoring the party barge.

    New Happy Owner

Welcome to the group and good to have ya! Hope to see you out on the water one day. I originally misread your boat name as "Stewbudgie" as in Stewed Parakeet which really cracked me up!

    Upgrading VHF

I had the Vesper XB-8000 on C-Sharp and it was a great unit. It, and the XB-6000 are just Class B. Their new all-in-one Cortex unit is Class B+ and I installed one in Pan-A-C'ya in 2021 when I outfitted her. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND the CORTEX! it failed to transmit both VHF and AIS in it's first...

Hey Brock, Joanie & I want to get in on this adventure! Are you still up for the "you guide for food" arrangement? :D

    New high (low?) for C-Dorys?

Just today I was talking to the licensed marine surveyor that is well known here in the San Juan Islands and did the survey on C-Sharp before I moved her along. He liked the C-Dory's so much that he bought a 16 and just loves it. He uses it as transportation between the Islands instead of...

    Legend has passed

Joanie & I are very saddened to hear of Rodger's passing. He was one of the many that we enjoyed visiting with at the CBGTs, and always got a kick out of talking with him, and hearing his trumpet. He will truly be missed, but also remembered. RIP Rodger!

Cushion / Padding Around V-Berth Entrance

If like me, probably a few more times of smacking your noggin, maybe even drawing a little blood should do the trick and condition you to duck a little more when diving in and out of the V berth.
