here is the patch I put over the old raw water washdown thruhull. this time I tried to be more efficient by dishing it out, then glassing, then waiting for that to gel and putting the fairing compound over it before it was cured. most of my time working on the boat has been grinding

I do my best to try and keep a wet edge with the epoxy, so I all bonds chemically. here, the epoxy I used to make the fillets along the sides gelled and the thin scrim layer on top of the balsa had areas that where disturbed, and the fibers stuck up and then the epoxy gelled like that. the result was that my glass cloth would not lay down, even though I had been keeping a wet edge during the install. I had to grind these ripples out later
