Thanks, Forrest. If I ever have to do it again, I'll get some. But I hope I never have to drill another hole in S/S again. Wink

The saga continues. Tried the magical "file" and the holes are so far off it, would've taken me all day, if it was even possible to do. I have my doubts. So much for "cutting through S/S like butter".

Another two calls to Tanner, a trip to the local UPS store and the pedestal is back en-route to Bellingham. It should arrived there before 10:30 hours and per Mark, it will be a priority. He will fix it and get it back to me by week's end. He also told me he "lost his ass" on this custom job. Who knows. All I know is I paid a chunk of $$$ for something that did not work.

For good measure I sent along the original Garmin pattern, the same one that came w/ my unit and the same one that I sent them originally w/ the work order.

I showed Meredith their holes w/ pattern underneath and my holes w/ pattern (that I drilled to match the arch plate). Mine=perfect. Their's=uhm, not so much. And I did it w/ home-owner tools. Rolling Eyes

Sounds like an entry in the customer service thread. Sorry that you're having the hassle!

Hopefully you are back on track. I would not shed any tears for "He also told me he "lost his ass" on this custom job."

Knowing what custom fabricators charge, I doubt that he is going to starve. I realize that is not possible in this case, but often the good fabricators come to the boat (or have your boat brought to them) to get it perfect.

Tanner is (or used to be) one of the OEM suppliers for C-dory.

I had them make my radar arch a couple years ago and (Tanner) Mark did come out and take lots of measurements. The finished product was perfect, though I did have to enlarge one of the radar mounting holes slightly.

It surprises me that Localboy Mark is getting jerked around. Tanner Mark surely knows that he'll be raked over the coals for it in this forum.

You can add Pooderbuilt (now PDR in Bellingham) to the do not call list. Their fabrication of my stern rail on our new 23V arrived twisted so badly that I had to rework it. One leg was 1/4" shorter than the other three and one of the flat washers used in the fabrication of the rail base had a flat side on it. The final insult was their inability to follow shipping instructions from Sportcraft Marine to drop-ship it to my home (they chose to ship it to Sportcraft, cost me an extra $20).

When Ryan (at Sportcraft) informed them of these issues their reply was no reply. Needless to say, Tanner or PDR will not get any future business from me. When you pay (well) to have a job done, it should be done right the first time (especially when they have a pattern).

I don't appreciate it when suppliers use that type if info with me. If things go well do they plan to tell you how much profit they made on you? just fix the problem quickly and as painlessly as possible for the customer. who is always right. Wink

sorry about your hassles. hope the rework works out for you.

I agree. I basically had no comment when he hit me with that. He quoted me a price. I paid it. It's a sales tactic I'm aware of and do not appreciaten nor would I use. I'm curious as to what, exactly, Tanner is going to do to "make it right". My bet is they will simply elongate the holes to fit. We'll see, hopefully, tomorrow. The other issue was Mark said he went out to the floor and spoke to the worker who drilled the holes. The worker swore he used the correct pattern. I said no way. I had the pattern in front of me and so did they! We agreed to disagree.

He was apologetic, and I appreciate that, but I'm out several hours of time/labor, a new ethernet end that I had to order from Garmin, freight back to Bellingham....truth be told, the entire transaction has left me frustrated and the bill for the return shipment to Tanner, via overnight UPS, made me even more resentful. My time. My money. More of my time. More of my money. For something that should have been correct from THE FIRST TIME. Evil or Very Mad

The big, brown truck just left. To my surprise it appears that an entirely new upper plate was welded onto the pedestal after the wrong one was removed. Still had some polishing compound left on it. The worker even left the pattern masking-taped to it, exactly as it should've been....tomorrow I install it, again....

So, for the record: Tanner made it right.

EDIT: On closer inspection, I know what they did. They welded up the wrong holes, grinded and polished them and re-drilled the correct ones. Makes sense; much easier than cutting/welding on a new plate. Idea
