Suzuki DF90 200hr service questions!

I had our boat up at Performance Marine in Everett, WA for about a week to get the 200 hr service done on the motor. I had considered doing it myself, and found good resources, but I've been too busy with work lately.

The hours meter was broken when I bought the boat so I relied on the tach reading at start-up to estimate the hours. It was actually at 185 hrs, but I don't mind having the service done since it's a 6 year old motor with almost enough hours.

The mechanic left a bag of the old parts as evidence of work I'm guessing. 4 used NGK plugs, a rubber impeller, a 'pump under plate', 'plate gasket', and some sort of mystery sleeve.

In my Suzuki manual I don't see a sleeve, just a pump housing (see the part on the far right of the drawing). So what is this thing (the part on the right in the first picture)?






It isn't called out in the parts or service manual. When I put the impeller in this sleeve (3rd pic), it seems too hard to turn the impeller. It has a wear pattern inside that seems to match the wear on the plate.

Alas, with the power of the internets, I looked up the water pump kit (17400-92J00) that was specified on the repair invoice. Here it is:

So my vintage (2006) has a replaceable sleeve that doesn't seem to come with the kits I was finding earlier. It's amazing that the impeller doesn't just melt due to all the drag it places on the housing! But I guess it's got cold water running through.

That very part is evidence that people who are too smart to do their own maintenance should not piss & moan about the cost
of having it done by someone who knows !! Wink Moon

Performance Marine completed the outboard diagnostic for me on my recent purchase of C-Dory with a Suzuki 90 .

Doug did the work and when done prolvided me with the replaced parts. Doug then spent an hour going over with me the dos and donts of not only the outboards but what he thought of the C-Dory. Doug lastly said to call anytime with any questions. I left feeling comfortable with his work and the offered open door.

2006 was the year they put that new inner cup in the pump. Do yourself a big favor and buy (~90$ or so) the big service manual. Also, you can see the parts lists at Browns Point Marine in NJ. They are the best Suzuki parts place I have found.

Unfortunately I didn't get any of that useful information (except the $50 diagnostic print out).

When I went to hook up the 5 to 7 pin trailer adapter was missing (they gave me a new one). Also I had to come back in to ask for my hard to find Trioving cabin key that I had left with them (they found it).

It was about $400 for the 200 hr service and $50 for the diagnostic reading. I'd like to have gotten the hour of one on one time with the mechanic, but no technical staff was there at the time.

I think I will take a shot at it next time. And the diagnostic harness is only about $15 more than I paid for the printout ($50) so maybe I should get one of those Smile

It's been 5 months since our 200h service on our Suzuki 90. One thing I just noticed that looks strange is some gray grease coming out at the bottom end of the joint where the fixed bracket attaches to the outboard body.

Does it look like the grease is getting pushed out (like if a gasket were missing), or is it just normal to have extra?

Run one without enough water, and you'll see it melt or come apart in very short order. That happened to my kicker when using a set of ear muffs and the pump was not getting sufficient water.

Indeed be very careful with earmuffs, I finally got a temperature gauge on my Suzuki 90A, so I can keep an eye on it while flushing.
