28 minute video of our river trip that started on 9-2-14 on the Snake River, Clarkston Washington. We travel on a " 22' C Dory Cruiser" down the Snake River to the Columbia River and continue downstream. We detour up the Willamette River past Portland OR then return to the Columbia River and travel to the Pacific Ocean where the trip ends. Great shots of beautiful landscapes, the locks, water, bridges and places we stopped at. Total distance traveled 520 Miles. Link http://youtu.be/4VjHU1W4hg4

Enjoyed the ride, select 1080 HD to really appreciate the scenery! Definitely going to do this trip. Looks like you went in Sept? How was the weather/winds?

Thanks for sharing

Great photos, Melita,

You captured the essence of my town pretty well. Next time, hit the melodrama, Shanghaied in Astoria, a locally produced feature of summertime. Astor Street Opry Company.

We launched on September 2 and had almost perfect weather. Calm warm winds and glassy water. The winds in the summer are coming from the West which means you will be hitting the face of the waves instead of falling on the backs of the waves which is preferable. In September the winds start to come from the East and become predominately Easterly in the winter. Also on September 1st they stopped letting water out of the eight dams which made departing the locks easier because usually you would be entering the fast water they are letting out. The water on the downstream side of the dams were as calm as the upstream side. Another reason to go in September is all the logs and debris from the winter had already been washed downstream. We seen only one floating log there is a picture of it in the video. There are many miles of not seeing any civilization especially on the Snake so you must be prepared. I want to go back this September and spend more time exploring the Snake. George

Loved it. Have boated many years on the lower reaches but not that far upstream. This is the year. Amazing how much smooth water you had. That is not normally the case. How did you get back to your vehicle?

I took a bus ride to Portland Airport and rented a car, all the rental cars in Astoria were out and they did not know when they would be returning. I left the rental car at the Lewiston Airport and took a taxi to my truck and trailer at the Hells Canyon Marina which was only a few miles away. Hells Canyon has fenced secure parking for $25 a month. We did have a couple of days of a strong easterly blow but mostly light winds often from the east. Another reason I wanted to start the trip on Sept 2 was that it was after Labor day.
