Warms me twice...

Wandering Sagebrush

Free Range Human
I had to drop a couple of my beautiful birch trees due to some rot and splitting. They were at least 70' high. Today's adventure was cutting them up and splitting them. Needless to say, swinging a splitting maul brings on a healthy sweat. As soon as they dry (next season), they can warm me in the wood stove.

It was an interesting collection of critters that came out of the split tree. One dead red shafted flicker, ants galore, termites, earth worms, some type of a clustered mushroom, a very nice soil, and who knows what else.

I wish every tree cut and split as easy as birch.

Steve,

There are times that I lapse into insanity for a while and go looking for some wood to split. After using wood for all my heating requirements for 28 years there are some things I do miss about that heat, but one of them is not the back ache at the end of 3 cord day, (cut, hand split and haul). Do miss the smell and especially being out in the cool, frosty, fall.

Enjoy the heat,

Harvey

Hi Harvey,

Yes, the warm feel of a wood stove is something that I truly enjoy. I just wish that the wood was a little easier to cut and split. It's funny, but I didn't remember it being quite as tough when I was younger.

One of my friends is giving me access to his woodlot of alder, so it looks like more work is instore.

One of these days we need to get the Montgomery's out for a sail.

Kind Regards,

Steve

Steve,

Yes, Wood heat is a very comfortable warm, through and through, nothing else comes close. That I do miss. And I do occasionally miss the quiet lap lap lap of the Monty in a nice breeze. I do spin the wheels on the trailer occasionally, but have decided not to put it into the salt water. Might at some point pull it down to Lake Crescent, but my first choice is to put the effort into launching the C-Dory.

Stay safe and work comfortable

Harvey
