Venture at the show

I was at the Victoria Boat + Fishing Show on Saturday and Port Boat House had a 23 Venture on display. It was getting lots of attention and the reaction seemed to be very positive. Fit and finish seemed excellent. The twin 70 Yamahas on the back seemed the perfect set up and Mike told me that the boat performed like a dream.

I was interested in the changes made in comparison to our boat and there were certainly several. As you can imagine I liked some and not others but then that was to be expected. The boat was set up as a low cost variant and I think that was a good move. Not many people can afford a fully loaded dream boat up front. The factory can always customize a new boat as the buyer would like it.

Someone is going to get a great boat and PBH were a great dealer to buy from.

As far as the overall show was concerned it was noticeably busier than last year. (The wet weather probably helped because I wasn't going out yesterday!). The place was packed and the exhibitors I talked to said that they were getting serious interest, not just tire kicking. Lots of great deals from Island Outfitters and I naturally picked up a couple of flashers and lures that convinced me that they were essential additions to my tackle box.

I'm approaching the 20 hour service on my brand new 70's, and I'm really happy with them. Low speed maneuvering is way more responsive than with the previous F50's, and to my surprise, fuel economy appears to be slightly better, too.

Oh My :!: :!:

Twins :D :D

Good choice.....Yamaha. Port Boat House must know something.

Glad to see them promoting great products. Good to hear.

I notice on the transom to the right of the engine at the waterline there is, what looks like a white, sliding block with transducer attached. Can anyone tell me where one could get the specs and where to purchase?
Nice looking boat. Thanks for any response. Ted

Don't want to highjack the thread completely - Here's the link to the outfit that makes these mounts: http://www.transducersaverplus.com/transducer-mount.html and you can see more pictures and details on the thread "Transducer Attachment" http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... c&start=30

I'm very happy with it so far. PM me if you think I can provide more info.

Surprised this morning to find a great photo on the front page of the Victoria Times Colonist! I have put it in my album.

PS: how do I get the actual photo in the posting?

Chimo, Hope this helps:

I got my boat with twin Yamis from Portboat House. Mike and the crew were great to deal with. It's not like me to get it right first time :P

Those twin 70s sure look great.

Martin.

It looks like the 70's have a bigger gearcase and bigger prop then the 50-60 hp yamaha's ? I haven't looked at the 70's yamaha's I know the 50-60hp have a bigfoot option . If ordering a new cd-23 I would order with twins what a nice setup .The cape cruisers when they came out they were more sparten then the newer cd-23 venture's maybe cd is going back to create a price point boat . I hope they start selling more venture's it would be nice to see more of them out there .

I could imagine that the prop size may be slightly larger. The F70 is only 8lbs heavier than the F60 and has the same displacement. Max HP is developed at 5800 instead of 5500 and max rpm has gone from 6000 to 6300. The improved performance essentially from the same motor is most likely from the 4 valve/cylinder configuration giving better breathing. Yamaha's website shows the same cowling image, different to the 2008 F60's on Chimo below. What is strange is that tilt range has dropped by 4 deg.. I keep Chimo in the water and like all the tilt I can get so that I don't have the gearcase in the salt water.

I have posted more pictures in Chimo's album. I think you are right about going back to the Cape Cruiser approach. You can see that from these pictures. I am not the first to suggest that the best approach the factory could make would be to drop the 22 hull and focus on the 23 but offer a bare bones version that could be customized either by factory or later.

Looks like you removed the picture from your album --=> so then it goes away in the post. (At least I think that is what happened.) I don't know of a way to keep pictures in the threads if the albums get re-arranged. No Problem, your choice. Enjoy.

Now I feel really embarrassed ! 😳

Harvey was really kind and through a very comprehensive pm he straightened me out as to why I was having trouble putting a picture in a post. I was so excited ! 😃 I couldn't contain myself and went to my photo album and posted a whole bunch of other pictures about the show in Victoria in a new sub-album. Feeling like an expert I then dropped my original scan from the Times Colonist in the new sub-album as well. In doing so I disconnected the link in Harvey's link. Sorry Harvey 😔. I didn't mean to do that. 😢

Thanks again for all your help. You may have unleashed a demon but it's a well intentioned demon.

Hey David, No Problem my friend. Sorry, did not mean to embarrass you. If it is in the other album, you can put it back into this thread, just not into that same post. I believe I did the same thing when I was learning the album stuff. To avoid, that, I think I had to copy the photo from one spot to another in the albums, instead of cut or move.

Sorry I forgot to mention that part in the PM.

Enjoy.

I notice the props both spin the same way. Is this common in dual outboard configurations? I've owned twin inboard boats and they typically turn in opposite directions to mitigate prop walk. Just curious.

They usually don't make engines less than 150HP that have counter rotating versions.

Charlie

I believe you can get yamaha counter rotating in f115 hp Suzuki might also make them ? counter rotation would be nice in those 70 hp models I guess it's economics for the outboard company not to many 50-70 hp twins out there ?

My twin 60's spin the same way. No problem. Hydraulic steering eliminates pull. Motors are very close together so the effect is not like twin inboards.

Hi Charlie, If I'm not mistaken the "cut off" is.....no counter rotating props in outboards less than 100 HP.

Additionally, I don't detect any noticeable prop walk with our twin 50 HP Johnson's that are both rotating clockwise.

As a side note, our 22' spins in its' own length easily with our dual clockwise rotating outboards.

Dave,

Having experienced both sides of this fence I have to agree with you, rotation and prop walk are two different items

You can turn any Twin engined boat around in it's own length given a bit of experience and an application of steady, balanced power.

The prop walk issue only occurs when you apply a burst of power on one engine and then only for a short period until the main thrust takes over.

My own feel is that with counter rotating twins, IF you can remember which engine and which direction ( Fore/Aft) to apply thrust it works like a charm.

The other side to that is if you screw it up it all goes sideways quickly :-)

If in doubt, take lessons from Les. He does it automatically.
