Display settings are cause this problem of system unresponsive or pausing during use (insert jokes here)
To resolve or troubleshoot
go to Startbutton
Control Panel
System
Select Advanced tab
then Performance
then select adjust for best Performance
this will remove many visual effects (eye candy) and look dull and plain
but might solve your problem
If it helps keep this setting or update your display drivers
