Tuna

I stopped in Englund's Marine today and bought the first of my tuna gear. 400 ft of 200 lb. test chord to use for handlines. I'll use it to make up 100 ft lines. Also got the rubber shock absorbers. Fisherman's Marine wanted $34 for handline, Englunds wanted only $22 for the same thing. Shock absorbers were $7.50 apiece. Next will be hooks, 175 lb. leader and tuna clones. Looks like the clones will be the largest cost. I'll need an assortment of them at $5 a clone.
The guy behind the counter said they were catching tuna 12 miles out of the Columbia bar this summer.

Hi Larry:
If you ever need a deck hand to go after those fish let me know. I would be more than happy to go with you at a moments notice. Just give me time enough to drive down from Shelton. Lyle-t

By golly Lyle, you got a deal. I'll have a guest bedroom fixed up in the new shack we're building. They tell me we should be able to move in around xmas.
I'm still planning on you coming down and showing me how to fish the mouth of the Cow. for steehead too.

Fishermen have been known to encounter Bluefin Tuna while out fishing for Albicore Tuna.

Do you think one of these would put up much of a fight?

What's a Tuna? Har har har...
Had some fer breakfast, lunch and dinner yesterday and today... I think there's just enough leftovers for tomorrow given I have some Crab to polish off to take up the slack...
Mmmmm

Have Tuna tote, will travel.

Only 230 days to go......

Man the clock is slow and I fear I'll run out before I get to go for more...

Hey Ray. glad to see you found this thread. Say, if you or anyone else wants to go together and buy tuna gear, let me know. I noticed there is a considerable price break at Englunds if you buy in bulk. They sell tuna clones by the 10 pack for about $40 if memory serves me. If you buy individual clones they run $5 -$6 apiece. Bulk is the way to go. :thup

Well Larry, I already have a full bag of Tuna gear all laid out in my new Tuna gear bag with extra Tuna reels and Tuna leader and Tuna hand lines and Tuna planer boards and the expensive Tuna crimpers (Thanks a lot Mel.) with a full asortment of Tuna jigs, Tuna feathers and Tuna Cedar Plugs... But it is just a matter of time before I get more ;)
Just don't tell my wife.... And if she should ask, Fresh Tuna is going for $1569.99 per Oz... Oh yea, I also have a Tuna quenching tank, Tuna tote and Tuna livebait well makings.... Plans for Tuna tubes....

Tuna, Tuna, Tuna.... I need a sandwich....

Okay, thanks to the sale at Englund's I have enough gear for a trip to tuna town. I figure I have about $150 invested in tuna gear. That includes handlines, 5 dark clones, 5 lighter colored mexican flags, hooks, 175 lb. leader, crimping pliars, crimps and a few doo-dads and gizmo's.

I'm planning on adding a few more different colored clones and cedar plugs by next summer. Would appreciate suggestions on which colors work best from any seasoned tuna fishermen out there. Ogi, where you at? :D

Black and purple for overcast days, mean Joe Green and Mexican Flag for sunny days, blue and white, white, pink and white and pink just because you can NEVER have too many feather jigs onboard on those slow days.
Oh yea, and watermelon, don't forget the watermelon....
Then there are the cedar plugs in all the forementioned colors and of course natural and all of those in 2, 3 or 4 various sizes.
Then there are the hootchies to make teasers out of, the splashers and planers and of course the huge teasers and bowling pins the streamers and the spreader bars..... The list goes far beyond my budget but I seem to have put together a rather formidable arsenal... just don't tell my wife ;)

I even have a Charlie Tuna lamp thanks to my buddy Mel.

That was a great read, Ray. Thanks :thup
We northerners (Oregonians) get an additonal thrill from tuna fishing. It's the opportunity to take our boats into tropical water. Kind of like a tropical vacation in our own back yard. Well, 20 miles out to sea is still our back yard, isn't it?

Plans are made and I will be hitting the beach July 8th with Sea Lion in tow. Target TUNA!

I will be fishing out of Depoe Bay from July 8th through the 16th.
Hope to see a few of you there ;)

Ray let me see what I can work out for some time off.
Be very tempted to move the base of operations to Depoe for a few days for this type of fun.......

Will let you know if I can swing it
stevej

Looking forward to it Steve. I already have reservations for a slip.
You might want to do the same as that samll port will be busting loose with the Coho anglers at that time....

Looking very forward to this rodeo... It has been a long time coming

I am heading to the beach this Thursday for a Friday AM departure in search of the long fin.

Depoe Bay.... The SSt is right, the weather is trending right and I think it is time that the first sport boat landed the first sport caught Tuna off the Oregon coast this year.

If it ain't me it will be ne of my buddies.

Hope to see you out there....

Mr. Fisherman!

I'm headed for Tuna School, before I venture out with the old C-Dory.

Tuna school will be aboard the Royal Polaris beginning Saturday (6/19)morning, for eight days. Alijos Rocks is the destination.

I'm going to warm up those old dried up drags!!! :smilep
