Trip report: Cordova,AK

Dan-

Nice story and photos.

Sounds like a real, fun, Alaska style adventure!

I used the slideshow viewing method- couldn't look at individual photos and the number of viewers indicated didn't change. Not your fault, but just another photo album glitch Bill will have to deal with eventually.

Thanks for sharing your and Paige's trip with us all!

Joe.

Hi Dan,
Was that little bakery/pizza place just across from the slips open?
How long did it take you to make the run each way?
Cordova is on our list for next summer. It is a great village to walk through.

Dan,

Memorial Day weekend was the best weather I have seen in the sound in a long time. It was memorable for light winds and bright sun. We had a wonderful time in Derickson Bay kayaking, hiking, and just sitting on the beach.

Hope the weather is good in July.

Nice trip, Dan. In winter, they roll up the sidewalks and go south.
I was there just after Chirstmas a couple years ago. We had New Year's Eve dinner at the Keg or the Nail or something like that...can't remember the name, but it was awesome food...steak, crab, and lobster Some one else who knows Cordova will probably chime in with the correct name of the place.

Cordova certainly does have character.

I'm a Boatswain's Mate on the Coast Guard Cutter Sycamore (225 foot buoy tender) homeported in Cordova. Check out our website for great photos and info about the town: http://www.uscg.mil/d17/cgcsycamore/. I've been here a year and enjoy it, although it is isolated, the community revolves around the water. Make sure you check out the Cordova Historical Museum if you stop by. They have the Fresnel Lens from the Cape St. Elias lighthouse as well as other great exhibits and information.

I just ordered a new 22 foot Cruiser which should be here in July and I'm looking forward to it. This is a great site and has answered alot of my questions. Semper Paratus.

Dan,

I read about yours and other C-Dory adventures, I can only feel happiness for you and the others. For me I wish I was there. Twelve years in the Inn Business is enough. It's work to get out of it. My goal is to cruise all year for a few years after I get out of the business. Coast of Maine, Erie Canal again and again (that place is boater friendly. No fees this year. Free dockage, laundry, and showers, and great food.) Intercoastal waterway. Florida in the winter. A dream I HAVE to make true.

Fred

Midwatch,

I hope to get to Cordova on Sunday July 2 after our get together in Shoppe Bay. It should be a nice cruise over and with Dan's tips about the narrows, it doesn't sound too difficult. Thanks for the info on things to see. I was in Cordova two years ago doing some work for the telephone company and had the good fortune of three straight days of sun in the middle of May.

Welcome Midwatch,

Congrats on your 22, the best C-Dory! (Thought I would start some fun).

Love your tag line, and thank you for serving.

Some time maybe you'll pull inland duty on the Great Lakes?

Mark
