tach question

we have a 22 cruiser with a 75 honda. when running at wot our gps speed is 28 mph trimmed out, prop is 13.5 by 15. our tach reads 3400 rpm and at cruise of 19.8 mph it reads 2800 rpm. this is obviosly wrong, is there an adjustment on the tach or anywhere else?

Not as far as I know. Sounds like you are running way below design WOT if the tach is to be believed. You might try generating a speed curve by going up in 500 RPM increments from idle, measure speed and rpms, see if the rpms are a relatively smooth curve until they start to flatten out. Are you using the factory prop? Sounds like a dealer question.

you may be able to find someone with an electric multimeter with tac capabilities adjustable for your #cylinders, pull the cowl tap a plug wire and have someone read the rpms as an accuracy check. just an idea.

I have an angler 22 loaded to the gills with heavy stuff and heavy people and we run 28 wot on an old johnson 70 2/s running on a 14x11p prop. you may have too much prop.

I don't know about your Honda, but some tachs have a setting on their reverse side that can be set for a different number of cylinders, i.e., 3, 4, 6, etc.

Worth looking for anyway!

The tach instruction manual has been sent to you by email. Let me know if there are any problems with the transmission.

Good luck.
