Surge brake compatible weight-distributing hitches

In doing some research on WD hitches, it seems that Reese and Equal-i-zer are the two manufacturers that are designed to be compatible with surge brakes. Etrailers.com sells both brands, with the Reese model about $80 less than the equivalent Equal-i-zer. I saw the recommendations for Equal-i-zer in some prior posts here on C-brats, but does anyone have experience with the Reese? Any thoughts on comparing the two?
 
Hi I had a wd hitch for only a short while. The kind I had didn't allow the movement for brakes to actuate. Not good. I took it off. I now have 15,000 miles towing without it on the 22 with no issues. I believe there are some available for surge. Heavier boats likely better to do a wd hitch and elec/ hyd brakes. George
 
The Equal-I-Zer, shown below worked well with the surge brakes. We eventually converted the brakes to electric over hydraulic, much better. You are technically required to have in-cab control of the trailer brakes in Canada if over a certain weight. I believe it's around 6000 lbs.

Thanks for the input! My truck manual states that I have to use a WD hitch for loads over 2000 lbs so, since I'm not interested in assuming liability for an improper towing setup, I'll be installing one. I'm opting for the Equal-i-zer just since it is tried-and-true here on C-brats. I appreciate your help.

If you decide to get the Equal-i-zer hitch, check out the pricing at http://www.adventurerv.net/. It's where I bought mine and the price was considerably less than most other places, even with shipping. I have no affiliation with this company, so just passing on the info.
 
One more thing, make sure you order an Equal-I-Zer ball. They have a shorter shank than normal. A regular ball will extend into the hatch and crack the socket for the equalizer bar. Don't ask how I know this. :oops:
