Setting up a New Trailer-Bunk Placement?

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a new EZ Loader, tandem axle, galvanized trailer rated at 5200lb. for 22 to 24 foot boats for my 1994 22' cruiser. It has two bunks. Was wondering where the optimal placing of the bunks is. Also, any advice from others who have adjusted/set up a new trailer would be appreciated.

Well, you're getting a lot of advice. My only thought is to look at the pictures in the C-Brat album. I make no claims for any deep thought there.

I agree with Boris. Pictures go a long way in helping people see what needs to be done. At least for me anyway. Ask Tyboo or Danag for an album and you could download your pics

One thing that came to mind is that our King trailer has four bunks.
 
When I overhauled the '84 E-Z Loader that came with my boat, I built four bunks to replace the two originals. The two outermost bunks went back where the originals were located; the new bunks just evenly split the space between. I also set them a bit lower to get the boat up and floating sooner.

I glued up three pieces of treated 1x6 decking for each bunk. The decking was relatively wet; the moisture helped kick the Gorilla Glue I used. A laminated bunk is less likely to twist and warp over time like a single solid piece will, plus it's much stronger.

I've got to go down to the barn this week; I'll try to remember to take pictures.

The bunk placement isn't critical on a C-Dory like it is on a V hulled boat. There are no lift strakes or other hull details that have to be matched. I'd place them a bit wider than halfway between the keel and chine.
