Screen header is half the screen

Even though there's no advertising, the top half of the screen is still taken up with "stuff". Heck, on my screen it's the top 2/3 that's just headers. Hard to read much bigger than 800x600 on a 15" screen.
 
Chuck - sorry to be brief, got lots of stuff to do. I have an easy fix for you that does not affect the layout, but reduces font sizes so more will fit on the screen. I'll post how to do this once the fix is in place. Note to others - this will be user-selectable; it will only apply if you choose to enable it.

A change in the header layout (reducing the amount of space it takes vertically) is a good idea, and I'll play around with some options, but it will take a while longer.
