Saturn V.S Baltik

Hi all,

I've read a few places including on this site in some outdated threads that Saturn and Baltik inflatables are the same with different brands stamped on them. I'm seriously considering buying one of the 8'6" models. For the most part the specs on these seem to be the same.

Differences I have noticed.

Saturn is $50 less although baltik has a "make offer" icon and also says contact them for free shipping. I think they will come out to essentially same price.

different hp ratings.

inside width in baltik is 2 inches larger

different total boat weight.

Maybe some of these are just mistakes in specs?

We have a Baltic 8'-6" with air floor, that we have had since 2006. It has been used a few times each year and has held up well. Always stored in the bag un-inflated. The towing "D" ring did crack, but we still tow with it. Ebay purchase, I don't remember for how much. We pulled it for 1600 miles around south east Alaska in 2015. I use a Honda 2 HP or just row it.

On edit, Look on ebay, I think I paid less than $600, but it was 11 years ago.

Yes, I have seen those Bris kayak boats. They are the same thing as the Saturn Kaboats. I really like them, but for my needs a standard dinghy either in the 7'6 or 8'6 size will be best mostly because of my radar arch and rocket launchers on the roof. I will be able to flip a standard dinghy upside down which will cover the radar dome but be able to be secured up there. The kayak boats are just too long. I'm also trying to stay below 70lbs Max weight. I currently have a large air floor Achilles 10'6 which I love, but its just way to big/heavy to deploy and stow.
 
Those ebay listings above are a rebranded version of the original Kaboat design. The rear handles and seats of that vintage were did not do well over time and I would definitely go for only the later design of the boat. We have had three and the later design is far superior in a few key areas. I would not spend a dime on that Bris "inflatable kayak boat". Not while the better version is available.

Look for this type, Notice the seats, rear handles, and perimeter lines. That is an easy way to tell the difference between versions.

The 12ft Kaboat looks good in your pic. Unfortunately my Radar Dome sets forward on the roof with rocket launchers on the rear. A kaboat could still work if I flipped it upside down and have the radar fit it between the tubes if there is enough clearance.
 
We have a Baltik dinghy we bought on E-bay. Originally, I purchased the 8'6" version, but when I inflated it I realized it was too big, too heavy and just too cumbersome. I returned it and purchased one size down; 7'6" with the inflatable floor.

Quality is fine for a PVC boat and we have no complaints. In numerous bays/anchorages we have used it with three adults pushed by a Suzuki 2.5. When not in use, I deflate it and store it indoors, as UV light is it's weakness, long term. When in use, we keep it inflated and on the roof. No problem for us to get on board and my wife is 5'2 and 100 lbs. Like I said; no complaints.
