Raytheon sold the recreational division to some of the management group, which named the new company Raymarine.
They have had an ongoing issue with out of box failures, but have gotten better over the last few years.
Their other problem is that they have to take product back from the big box retailers that has been sold and returned. Millions of dollars worth of product. I have been told that this product eventually winds up in the OEM pipeline, but don't know for sure.
Based on our experience with Raymarine, we don't recomend it, and try not to sell it unless the customer is adamant. Much better, more reliable product out there. Part of Raymarine's problem is that there is a lot of "Factory Refurbed" product out there, at very reduced prices, deflating the value of the brand.
Garmin has made huge inroads into the Raymarine market share, and both are going after the entry level market of boaters. Garmin has constant product line "upgrades", and because of this they offer very limited support on "obsolete" product.
