Raymarine C70 mounting

Almost made up my mind to buy/install a C70 with chartplotter function only, at this point anyway. I would like to do a hanging mount, does anyone have a pic of their installation? to what degree does it obstruct vision?

Thanks - Dave

Not on a 22 but in my TC24 I have twin 70s mounted. See Page 10 of photo albumns, FreeByrd photo albumn, 2nd page photos 17 & 18 I think.

I really like the set up and there is some "limited" movement due to the pod mount. It is limited due to all the wires that come up thru and to the back of the unit. But, as far as moving it around a bit while using it to find out where YOU prefer it for YOUR use, it is sort of like adjusting the drivers seat of your car. Basically, once you find the best spot for YOU...it can be pretty much left alone. I let the set up and Les at E.Q Marine did the installation.

I need to add that I do a lot of night navigation. This set up does allow me to overlay the radar over the color chart plotter for me to use, and then adjust the mono screen for the co-pilot to have a radar view of their own. 4 eyes are better than just two anytime.

I hung my C-70, and really like it for this size boat. It's in the spot you see the Matrix-96 in. Moved that to the dash.

Dave,
Personally, I wouldn't want my C-70 suspended from above because you are always bending your neck looking up at it then back down to look out the windows. (Especially, if you have or think you may end up wearing bifocals like I do). My chartplotter is on the dash directly in front of me, with the GPS that feeds into it suspended from above. Since all the info from the GPS is "fed" into the chartplotter, I never have to look up at the GPS. Les rigged mine up this way for this reason and I'm glad that is what he did! Photos of my set-up can be found in my photo album.

Thanks to all who took the time to give their preference/ideas on mounting the chartplotter. Since I do wear bifocals and the eyes are getting weak with age I deferred to Dave S location; directly in front on the dash.

Cheers - Dave

Dave, I think you'll be happy you put it on the dash -- Rodger's Marine installed ours....I wear trifocals and Steve has bifocals; ours is on the dash -- wouldn't have it any other way!

Ya gonna love it! :)
