Question for those that have bought new

I am trying to figure out what a realistic price would be on a new C-dory 22' cruiser. I can go to their website and figure out the MSRP on the hull and specific upgrades but I don't know what a realistic expectation should be at the dealer? Do you typically pay MSRP on everything or is there wiggle room? I'm used to car buying where you can get anywhere from 2k-8k off MSRP. Any tips would be helpful.

Here's what I want:
22' Cruiser (hull price 32,500)
75 Main Honda
9.9 Honda Kicker
Trailer
Trim Tabs ($890.00)
Shore power ($975)
Inside rails (199)

I don't know the MSRP on engines or even have a clue about the trailer price.
 
A real good reference for pricing can be found on the EQ Harbor Services site. Go to this page and click on the pricing links. There is even some trailer info there. This is not an endorsement of this particular CD dealer, it is just an example of a good one.

I know there isn't much wiggle room on the hull price, because the factory sets that and the margin to the dealers is not too broad. The dealer makes his money on the rigging and accessories.
 
I think that you should figure on between $50k and $55k out the door. I had our boat rigged at the factory with the Wallace heater, shore power, a Norcold fridge, extra lights, a cabinet with drawers under the helm seat, extra 12V and 120V outlets and also had them install the sonar, GPS and VHF radio I purchased. I also had them install Scott downriggers, a camper back and twin Honda 40's. By the time I got fenders, lines, downrigger balls, rod holders, etc. I was into it for about $55k. In principle, many of the things I had the factory do I could have done myself and saved considerable cash - in particular the wiring. In practice though, a number of planned add-ons and mods haven't gotten done due to limited time etc. However, at this point, and knowing what I know now, I wish I had done the wiring myself - I think I would have done a cleaner job, I would have labeled the runs in much more detail and it would be easier for me to maintain and modify now (I also would not now put the battery switch on the bottom of the starboard lazarette).

However, when I bought the boat, I was completely clueless about boats. It is only through reading on this site, experience with the boat and carefull thinking that comes after having the boat awhile that I now know how I'd rig it if I had to do it all over again. One thing I'd do for sure if I was you would be to attend a C-Brat gathering prior to ordering your boat. Interview people to find out what they'd do differently and take careful notes of the mods that you see that you like. That will allow you to get the boat outfitted closer to what's ideal for your needs at the very beginning. Just reading on this site can help alot too. I wish this site was available when I started looking at C-dory's, I would have made some different choices in the initial purchase.

I was told by a dealer that for a decent boat, fully equiped with lots of electronics, motor(s), trailer with brakes, taxes, title, insurance, life vests, charts, training books, etc, (basically a newbie who wants to do it right)plan on $3000 per foot.

If you do alot of your own purchasing and installation via ebay and such, you can do well at $2500 per foot.

If you already have or had a boat and can reuse a lot of the stuff, probably $2000.

Of course, if your nickname is Red Fox, figure $500 a foot and some 'injun candy'. Of course his boats tend to be faster, equiped to the hilt and able to survive pissed off sow grizzly attacks. I can only imagine NASA if Greg did some consulting for them, dang shuttle would probably work and we'd have change left over!

You're in the ballpark. I bought the Jenny B new last year and it came in at just under $50k out the door with the Walla, the Barber chair, swim step, the Tall Top, extra shelving, no refrigerator, power wiper, a Yamaha EFI 75hp, a mooring cover and a bunk type 2 axle trailer with sling slots, but no electronics whatsoever. (And no hat either!)

Ya gotta remember, this ain't yer run of the mill production boat (yet). The only way to get a great deal on a used one is from an owner who isn't internet savvy and believes NADA is the be-all end-all. (naive) Otherwise you're talkin at least 85% of new price after a year's depreciation, and that's if yer lucky or somebody wants a C-25 bad enough.
 
You may consider waiting for a boat show in your area. Dealers often drop prices on a few of the show models to move inventory. This may be advantageous even if you have to travel to go to a bigger show. Just a thought. The dealer in my area was asking below 50K with show speical items such as portable VHF and other goodies thrown in.
