Question for angler 16 owners

I have an opportunity to pick up a Tohatsu 3.5 hp longshaft for a good price. I am concerned it is not enough engine to serve as a get home engine and occasional trolling motor. It will be replacing an old Johnson 8.5 that is heavy as well as a bit long in the tooth. the boat is used for near coastal cruising.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Well, I have a 5hp Honda which pushes our loaded 16 angler along at about 5mph. Dr. Bob, the expert, will hopefully chime in with a comment. I would guess he will say that the Tohatsu is adequate. Consider a phone call or email to Les at EQ marine. He is a respected and knowlegeable Tohatsu (and Honda) dealer who used to sell C-Dory and now builds the Marinaut boats.

Thank you all. I am trying to decide whether to go with the Tohatsu or jump up to a Yamaha 6hp as my main is a Yammi F50 and the fuel tank scenerio would be more convenient.
Cheers

I have a 16ft angler 50hp honda this summer I added a 8hp honda kicker always nice to match motors. I would say the 4hp will push the boat in ideal conditions but if you need to get home on the kicker or out of trouble and its nasty I would go with an 8hp only concerns being its a tight fit on the transom.
Good luck

I think that I would go with the Yamaha just for the availability of parts and service. The experience I have with Tohatsues is limited, but the seem to me to be good motors. My buddy has a 8hp Tohatsu on his 16 CD angler. Loves it.
