Propane gas grill

Picked up at a yard sale a used Magna propane gas grill- works great- have the attachment that fits into my fishing pole holder which is located on the port and starboard side of my rails half way between the cabin and the engine-there are gas vents on both sides of the boat-3 or 3 1/2 feet away-sorta makes me nervous-see people doing this all the time on boats but does not make it safe-anyone do this-thinking if I taped the vents for a short period of time it would resolve/diminish the fume problem-thoughts?

I used chair tips with streamer attached to cover vents. Works really well. My crew Carolyn came up with solution as I was thinking it over. See my album and Martin's on Nomad for older style vents. Does remove any vapor smell. Safety first. George

I agree with you. Have the same set-up, and same sentiment. I'm pretty sure that gas vapor and a flaming grill are not a very safe combo to have around on the boat.

I resorted to a very damp washcloth over the vent and tinfoil over the gunnel to stop any hot stuff from leaving dents in the gelcoat.

I have used blue tape on rafted boats when the vent is too close. Bob on Sea Pal uses a 35 mm film canister to cover his. You remember 35 mm film don't you?
 
I just stumped up for a new Magna, I never luck in at garage sales. Have only used it once on the boat, it is still free standing in the cockpit. I use George's/Carolyn's invention with the rubber chair tips. Nice tight fit, works great. Peace of mind.

Not wanting to hi-jack the thread but I was recently parked next to a boat that had the fresh water inlet mounted (by the manufacturer who shall remain nameless) within 1 " and slightly aft and downhill of the pump out. :disgust

Maybe less spectacular but equally dangerous in my book.
